Do you conceal a fixed-blade for EDC?

What is the best orientation for the blade? I recently traded for a Strider MFS and have been carrying blade forward at my 2:30 (I’m right-handed), with my pistol at 12:30-1:00 and my spare mag at 8:00. How do you carry yours?

Jay

Hi Dookie,

Sometimes I carry my Rekat Hobbit Warrior IWB, sometimes I use a Merc Harness.

I carry a ShivWorks ClinchPik at about 11:30 every day.

Usually a Polkowski Bodyguard or Polecat on a mercharness or Tactical Tether. The TT is very comfortable and positions the knife well to compliment a pistol.- George

I am lefty so rt side at about 12:30 on hard slant! Strider Mk10 TAD gear CQB Version 61/2 Blade

Definitely. I canrry a 4" bladed SAR custom utility knife at my 800

Hey I know you, my brother from another mother.- George

You get around too much George!!

I carry a KaBar TDI at my 11:30. It’s in a custom holster that allows access from my left hand or right.

I carry a Strider SNG or Emerson CQC-8 half the time and a RAT Izula for now until I order my Strider SA.

I carry the Izula horizontally at 6 o’clock with the handle towards my left side, blade facing down.

I carry my Kimber SIS in a VersaMax II at 4 or 4:30 and used to carry my fixed blade on the same side. Recently, I’ve found, and this is just for me, that in the very rare chance I would ever need my knife defensively, a reverse grip with my left hand from my 6 o’clock works best and fastest.

And, if I need the knife just to cut something, speed isn’t a issue usually, so it’s no problem to retrieve it with my left and use it or switch to my right hand to use it.

I’ve tried about every way possible, and this, for me, is the most comfortable and seem to be the quickest with the clothing I wear - jeans or linen pants and an untucked button down or t-shirt. Sometimes a suit if I’m working a location where a suit is best.

Yes. http://www.hideawayknife.com/main.php

avoid hideaway knives like the plague!!! They are very unreliable, will take your money and not deliver. Alot of knifemakers who were working with them have left in disgust. If you can find one for private sale they are a nice device. But company policy sucks!

That does not mirror my experience. I’ve bought three from them over the years and never had an issue. Buy from the “I Want One” available now section and it should be on it’s way.

I recall some folks having issues who ordered knives that weren’t ready and paid for them before they were even made having issues, but that seems to me like they didn’t understand that they were dealing with a TINY company with a lot of demand.

If that’s the case today, I’d still look good and hard for a used one as they are very high quality and ultra concealable.

A few years ago they were very dependable, however new mgmnt really screwed things up, thats why no more custom makers will work for them. There have been numerous posts abouth them recently, a real shame as it is a great concept.I have a few friends who have customs by Mick Strider and Ken Brock, and they are great. If interested in these I would look for a secondhand piece to avoid any drama. I emailed them 2 months ago about something and still havent got a reply.

Roger that. It’s been about a year and a half since I’ve purchased a new one. Guess she started a project and wasn’t ready for the big time(relatively speaking.)

I found a great maker who does a variation of the HAK, Spencer reiter, SAR Knives, he makes a SARClops. Very similar but not, I have a Damascus one, great lil digger. Here’s his link http://www.sarknives.com/sarclops.htm
He’s an Ex Ranger and a great guy! Thats mine on the lower rt.

I have a couple questions for everyone who EDCs a fixed blade…

[li]Are you planning on using this as a defensive weapon?[/li][li]What training do you have in the use of a knife as a defensive weapon?[/li][/ol]

ETA: I should add that I carry an Emerson CQC-7B daily in my pocket. I have no illusions though about using it as a weapon in a defensive encounter, it is merely a tool.

I’m always carrying one of my HAK’s(because half the time I forget I have the thing on,) and either my Buck/Strider folder, or a ZT300. I’m sure as hell not defending myself with either…they are purely tools.

I have no training with edged weapons, nor am I particularly inclined to get any.

That 1911 TDT looks like a really nice folder. I have been looking for something like that, and he would not need to machine out the bushing wrench on mine.

  1. Hopefully not, but it could happen.
  2. Not much.
