Dallas PD fires officer after shooting

Surveillance video apparently differred than reported events.

And it seems they’re actually trying to charge him.

Oh my goodness!! This will surely upset the folks that claim nothing is ever done, nothing ever happens to cops…

Stop stirring the pot. You aren’t doing yourself any favors and only continuing to make it about “Us vs. Them”.

Glad to see the media finally covered a story to the end. The reason you have people claiming nothing ever happens to police officers is because the media never finalizes stories. Months after a shooting no one is reporting it. Unless you follow police one John Q rarely hears about it.

This goes both ways, too. Often times, the media will put out an incomplete report of a shooting (which makes it look bad or at least questionable), and in a couple months, when the department is able to finally say what had happened, the update gets only a small mentioning, compared to the sensation of the original news story.

EDITED: regarding the media, not the pot-stirring.

I actually had a similar question in the SWAT/Marine thread here, which is why this story caught my eye. CNN has the video link on their homepage currently, which is how I found this story.

What about his partner, who apparently supported his version of events and signed the report?

This story is nowhere close to the end.

The officer is being brought up on charges, faces jail time. His appeal for firing, has not even started,

His partner is under investigation for lying about what happened.

Here’s the video: http://youtu.be/urfM5FMaRtc

It appears as though the officer stoops and picks something up…

Probably his brass. You know, ammo prices are high!

wow. Did they not think the cruiser camera would catch that? (Assuming they have one).

I thought they were back at the station?

The video is from a neighbor’s security camera.

If there is video from their cruisers, I don’t think it’s been made public.

I was referring to them being more aware they were already on video tape from their cruiser. So, I can only speculate that this may have been a training issue and possible trigger finger under stress event if giving the officer’s the benefit of the doubt.

Regardless, lying on a report to cover a partners butt is a no no. Now one mistake will ruin 2 police officer’s lives by lying.

I would think that he’s picking up the knife or some other object that was held by the mentally ill guy

Obvious threat. They should have just run him over with the patrol car. You know, for the children.

That’s my guess as well. What I find troubling is that the knife, or object, was about 10’ away from what appeared to be a compliant person.

So has everyone missed the part about the officer being fired and that he’ll probably be charged in criminal court???

I mean, wtf else do you want???

I thought it was odd that a judge wouldn’t sign the arrest warrant.

In fact, an attorney for Officer Spencer said police wouldn’t allow his client to leave headquarters for more than an hour after he was officially terminated. CBS 11 News learned that during that time officers were scrambling to get an arrest warrant for Aggravated Assault, but a judge refused to sign it and instead referred the case to a grand jury.

The object picked up was right where the guy was sitting in the chair before pushing it back and standing up.

The othe officer kicks something away from the dude.
