Cutting MRP Barrel from 14.5" to 11.5 or 12.5?

I’d like to have an MRP barrel in 11.5" or 12.5" and was wondering what challenges I might face if I was to try and shorten a 14.5" barrel down.

I know that the gas-port would likely have to be opened up a little, but I seem to remember someone saying that this is difficult with LMT barrels because their ports are drilled at an angle.

With that being said, is this still possible? and if so, how would I know how much to have the port opened up?

Any input would be appreciated.

Mike,

I was the one that when talking with Gene at LMT, he said that they drilled their gas ports at an angle. This was/is done to help mitigate gas port erosion!! Pretty slick if I do say so myself!!!

If you want one shorter, I would first contact ADCO (http://www.adcofirearms.com/). They should be able to cut down your barrel for you. They will be able to answer your questions about gas port size and location.
