Crazy Idea? "Cocking Notch"

Has anyone attempted to mod a pistol with a, for lack of a better term, “cocking notch” or “cocking plate”?

Essentially something to enable a reliable catch-point for one-handed, foreign-object-assisted action manipulation.

One of those, strange, tired, driving home at 10:45 at night ideas that popped into my head.

There are several rear sight designs that facilitate this, Warrens being just one.

Change the sights 10-8 sights are advertised has being able to act as a cocking notch there are a couple of others as well. Side note the 1911 was designed to be able to be cycled by pressing down on the plunger tube area on a flat surface.
Katar bet me 2 it;)

Well, damn. Thanks for the intel. I thought I might have been on to something here.

even the ejection port itself can be used, at least on a 1911

I was thinking of something like a dedicated latch, that doesn’t interfere with the normal operation of the weapon.

The second part of that becomes the tricky part.

perhaps a holster or belt accesory designed to catch a rear sight…

Oh, and … and … a spring that lets you retract the slide and then pushes it back into battery automatically!

:stuck_out_tongue: i’m gonna go patent that! i thought of it first!

Or you could get the spetsnaz holster it kicked ass on deadliest worrier

It also flips the safety off.

Day I see this at the range is the day I run. Frick, NRA Range is dangerous enough with some of the idiots who show up there. I can see multiple leg and groin shots with this contraption.

  Me too

Smartass

I saw this one years back. I think this is what you had in mind. By the way, I don’t have one. I have always been taught to use the rear sight like others have mentioned.

does that thing grab the slide? and then you push down to chamber a round and free the gun from the holster? crazy

Years ago, there was a company making a duty holster for LE use that did the same thing.

Stupid is as stupid does.

My Warren rear wasn’t quite as grabby as I’d like so I spent about 3 minutes with a 5/32" chainsaw file & improved the “hookability” of the front edge considerably. Just a little filing went a long way. I did the same thing to the XSBDs that I had on the gun (M&P9) previously for the same reason.

Yes it does .

I figured you’d like that. I haven’t ruled the XSBDs out, but I wanted to try something with a little more visual feedback for a while to see if it could help me get more gooder. I even painted the front sight.
