So I really want to get my BCM mod 0 comp on I just got in the mail today so I can test it at the range this weekend, but I lack the proper equipment.
I have a nice vise mounted to a bench, but I lack a true barrel vise block. I tried making one out of a 2x4. I drilled a 3/4" hole with a paddle bit centered on the wide portion, and then cut the piece in half long ways. It does the job of holding the barrel well without marring the finish on the barrel, but the damn barrel keeps spinning inside of the block when I apply significant pressure with the wrench.
Thanks man. I ended up shredding some leather gloves and using a strip between the wooden blocks I modified and the barrel. Worked okay. Here is a pic of the finished product. Looks to be on right. Not bad for a first comp/muzzle device install.
[QUOTE=Iraqgunz;1648402]Negative! Something will get damaged. This is why they make tools for this job. Right tool= right results. Wrong tool= ARbortion.[/QUOTe
Ole Willie might need all those fancy tools, but not me. I’m a master armorer with a 20rd mag and a fork.
+1. My homemade barrel vise block may not be commercially manufactured but it is the right tool for the job. Using the magazine method could damage the rifle in a multitude of ways.
