June 2020, bought these two rifles almost simultaneously, the Gvt Model (R6550, 1989) from an LGS and the Gvt Carbine (R6520, 1989) from a private seller.
I’m a real sucker for those vintage fixed carry handle Colts, and they’re quite scarce here in Switzerland. They are light and simple, and will easily hit a torso sized target at 300 meters and more.
The rifle was new, LGS picked it up from an elderly gentleman, it was never fired. The Carbine was close to new, fired very little.
Love that early 6520.
Probably my favorite carbine version.
I had a weird one, kinda transition model
Colt told me it was a 1988 Gvt Carbine R6520. It has all the attributes of it, but it has the previous markings of the R6420 (Sporter II)
Colt definitely has “transitional” models. The A2 was introduced in 1986 so they probably used the existing lowers and just updates some roll marks.
The A2s you just got have the strangest front screw / retaining screw I’ve ever seen.

KNS precision, bought them from Brownells.
They have a new model with the end closed, makes it easier to operate
Those are better than most of the alternatives I’ve seen.
I really like your 6550!
I’ve one of the latter transitional ones produced with the bayonet lug ground off.
Just posted a thread about it.

Thanks, just saw your thread and commented
That is a couple nice looking Colts. Nice acquisitions. I have a few myself. One of my rarest is my 2002 AR6320 (1 of 297 made).

You have a lot of nice stuff. Congrats.
Nice family, I (think) I have the HBar 6601, no lug and sear block. Probably kills the value, but still gonna keep it nice and clean
