Colt 6940 help

Hey all, I recently lateraled departments and my new PD is in the process of switching to the 6940. At my last department we were allowed to use personal rifles setup however we wanted.

My current rifle is a 6920 16" with a 13" vtac alpha rail, fixed DD front site, folding MI rear sight, x300 ultra at 12 in front of the front site, IWC hand stop at 6, TI7 stock, VTAC 2-point adjustable sling, Aimpoint PRO, and a vtac rail less sling mount near the magwell.

My biggest concern with the 6940 is how cramped I’ll be coming from the alpha rail and where/how I’m going to mount my light. I am a bigger guy, 6’5, with long arms and really like the free float rail and how it allows me to get my support arm further out.

I was browsing the IWC website and it looks like they have a 45 offset thorn tail mount for the x300, has anyone used one?

Appreciate any thoughts/feedbacks on light mounting options and otherwise. Thanks!

That’s my duty rifle, also a 6940. The handguards is standard carbine length so a more traditional forward hand placement is required, but otherwise it’s an excellent rifle. Look into the surefire scout and IWC’s offset thorntail SBR mount. They work great for me.

That looks solid, I didn’t even think about mounting it on top. Seems like you can push the light pretty far out doing it that way as well, thank you! I’m not a huge fan of the carbine length rails, it was the main reason I switched the handguards on my 6920, oh well…

Now thats what I’m talking about! Thank you! Have you used one? Curious how they hold up

I have not used one but I also have not heard anything bad about them.

Maybe you can be our tester monkey.

They actually have two different versions, depending on what kind of sling you like to use. > http://www.botach.com/kley-zion-colt-6940-combo-mount-snap-hook-tactical-light/

Ha, maybe… I just realized my 6920 upper works with the 6940 lower, lord willing I can just do that.

Just wanted to write a quick update, I ended up ordering the Botach mount and it held up really well during our departments rifle class. Class was a week long and round count was approx. 1,500 rds. Mount did not loosen or shift at all, actually surprised how well it held up. Works good for me as I get pretty far out on the rifle and place my thumb on top of the folded front sight of the 6940. I did not use the socket for mounting my sling so not sure if that would change anything.

Thanks for the update, I’m glad that the mount worked.

No problems ordering from Botach?

I’m VERY interested in that handguard setup shown in the picture from masakari. Anyone know who makes them?

For some reason I’ve never had an issue with them. I ordered my helmet from them and a few other small things and always get my stuff in a few days.

I have the rifle. I want that forward grip setup.
