Cigars any advice?

I have a friend that likes cigars. He is always looking for good ones here and there. I was wondering if anyone has a brand or two of nicer cigars they like, and a place where I could order him some for his upcoming birthday (1.5 months out)?

My knowledge of cigars is that they are made of tobacco, come in a variety of sizes, and are wrapped in tobacco leaves. Yep, that’s it.

Thanks in advance.

I no longer smoke cigars, but
these Natural Cigar Offerings from Drew Estate are my favorite (in order of preference):

  1. Dirt
  2. Root
  3. Clean Robusto

The Acid brand, also from Drew Estate, has a Cigar called “Kuba Kuba” that is very good, but far from traditional.

For a traditional cigar you can’t go wrong with anything from CAO, I prefer the cameroon.

+1 for CAO

I really like the CAO Brazilia it’s one of my favorites. It’s a very full bodied cigar. The CAO Cameroon is very nice also, it’s alot “lighter” than the Brazilia. You really can’t go wrong with anything in the CAO line you just got to pick based on how heavy you like the taste.

Like David said Acid’s are very good as well but they’re quite different than most cigars. They have a very earthy/spicy flavor to them as there made from various herbs. I like to enjoy them every once in a while just for something different. They have a very, almost overpowering aromatic smell.

Arturo Fuente, Cohiba, Romeo y Julieta, basically any name brand cigar is good you just go to figure out how strong of a flavor you or the person your getting it for likes.

Upmann is a nice, very smooth smoke. And they’re decent on price … $ 5.00 to $ 6.00 range for a Vintage Cameroon which is great~ IMHO

what about some good ol’ Swisher Sweets…

Haha

Can’t forget about Backwoods, Gold & mild, and of course Philly blunts :stuck_out_tongue:

i’m kind of partial to 5 Vegas, but you could always go to one of the sites like

http://www.cigarsinternational.com/

or

www.thompsoncigar.com

and order one of the samplers for him–maybe he’d discover a new favorite. Gives him a chance to try something new perhaps with no risk.

For Dominican, I like Davidoff

Wait till Cohiba notices this thread.

That’s who popped into my head too. He had that “Cigars for Dummies” thread on Grant’s old site. I wonder if he saved it by any chance.

Drew Estate are my favorite I usually have a Java flat in my poor man humidor.

I am partial to Punch Maduro’s and Double Maduro’s. I have a Fuente Forbidden X that is waiting another 2.5 weeks until my son is born.

I have three suggestions. In order of preference they are Cohiba, Cohiba, and Cohiba.

Congratulations to Alaskagrown!

Mike’s Cigars has a great web order service and they ship UPS 2nd Day Air out of Miami. This company offers very competitive prices, and great customer service; they will help identify the right gift.

+1

I remember seeing that thread on Grant’s site as well. Only at the time I wasn’t paying attention…

Thanks so far everyone.

Micubano and A Fuente are the only ones I have ever bought, I think their Nicuaraguan and Dominican

Macanudos for a lighter smoke and Red Dot Cohiba for a heavier one.

Padron and Montechristo make very nice cigars. Then again it has been 5 or 6 years since my last one.

My favorites, in no particular order are:

Top picks
Padron Anniversario or 1926 series
Fuente Opus X
Fuente Hemingway or Don Carlos
Onyx

2nd choices*
Montecristo
Punch
H Upmann
Partagas
yada, yada, yada… this could be a long list

*non-cuban varieties, since the real thing is hard to come by

Truth is there are alot of cigars out there that are pretty good these days. But for a special occasion, I’d go with something from the “Top Picks” list.

Cheers!
