It is a great gun. When I first saw the .22LR version, I thought it was awesome (especially at the price point). It has all the characteristics of a large caliber tactical sniper rifle (threaded barrel, large knob, rail system), but in a .22LR. I asked Savage if they could offer the same thing in a .22 Magnum. They said no. So I went to my friends at Lipseys and asked them to do a limited edition model of what I wanted. They were able to get Savage to do it and now we have it!
Grant, what would be the benefit of the micro slick on the BCG? Is it increased “lubricity”? Does adding the micro slick in anyway put bolt or BC out of spec?
Increased lubricity is what it offers. How I look at it is that I STILL must lubricate my BCG, but micro slick allows me to get away with forgetting to do it for longer periods of time (if that makes sense).
The coating is so thin that it does not affect the overall size like nickel based coatings seemed to do. It is also super cheap. We are thinking about a $30 dollar up charge on BCG’s!
I absolutely love my FVSR. Mine is a real tack driver with CCI SV- no expensive match ammo needed.
I wouldn’t bother doing anything fancy with the factory stock, though. It is a bendy piece of garbage that is pretty much the only upgrade the rifle needs. That said, the FVSR is worth the price even if you throw the stock away as soon as you pull it out of the box.
Look at the Boyd’s Tacticool stock. Grant, if you were interested in this, you could offer your coating services on an FVSR that you fit with a Boyd’s stock. Boyd’s sells them unfinished just for this reason.
For an idea of how accurate this rifle is right out of the box, watch just the opening clip of my Mueller APV review. It’s ten shots in one hole at 30yds videoed through the scope.
