What’s Huckabee’s? Though it doesn’t look like he’ll be the man.
DIDN’T ROMNEY MAKE A PERMANANT AWB IN HIS STATE? How the F can he get that grade from the NRA. The NRA will not get any more money from me. F them and Romney
Maybe the NRA likes Romney due to his lifetime member status, purchased in 2006? Sure hope he didn’t buy his way to a B rating, although it appears that may be the case. Perhaps he joined as he was planning on running, and knew he needed their support.
Sad to say we don’t have a good choice this year. We have a choice between not so good and terrible.
I think the worst case for us as gun owners and evil black rifle enthusiasts would be any of the republicans above in the White House and a dem controlled congress. If that happens I think a new AWB is a sure thing. If dems control both I don’t think it’ll happen. They know the issue is pure fire and they and they alone will take the hit.
The best case for us is a republican in the White House and at least one chamber in congress going republican.
Agree.
I searched like crazy this morning but couldn’t verify that the NRA has graded the presidential candidates. Would someone with stronger Google-fu please post a link to or the text of the NRA’s current grades (if they’ve been issued)?
The NRA’s not perfect, but for me those are the most credible grades. YMMV, but GOA lost the last of my support with its latter-day tin-hat position on HR 2640.
I did find a lot of references to Romney’s B-grade from the NRA – in 2002, when he was running for governor of Massachusetts – and to his claiming to have been endorsed by the NRA (which he wasn’t) and to his being a life-long hunter (his campaign later said that he’d been hunting twice).
Being as we don’t have any conservative candidates left with a chance of winning, Congress is key.
As much as I dislike Hillary and Barak Heussen Obama, I think in a way it’s easier for congressional Republicans to resist liberal policies when it comes from the opposition party. If proposals of AWB come from a Repulican president, it puts the congressional Repulicans in a very bad position of having to go against their own President, which causes a rift in their own party, and means the President may not support their legislation. So there is a lot of pressure to get with the program.
So I think that I’d just as soon have a Democrat in the white house as a RINO. At least when the BS is coming from a Democrat it will rally conservative Republicans and maybe we can get reorganized. I’m tending to agree with Rush the McCain as President will pretty much dismantle the conservative coalition as we know it.
I’ll be voting for Huckabee when my state has it’s primary. He’s from a neighboring state to me, and while I don’t agree with him on everything, he’s GTG on 2nd ammendment issues. A republican just about has to be down here to get elected. So I’m supporing Huckabee and hope that he can come back and win the nomination. Is he electable in the fall? I don’t know, but I think he’s our best option.
Let me be a bit more clear.
I don’t think a RINO president will propose an AWB or other gun control, rather it will come from a dem congress and the RINO will “reach out to the dems”.
My big 3 issues are WOT/Islam, taxes and gun control. So I’m going to have a difficult choice this year.
On the NRA ratings I can get them after Sept. I work with a grass roots organization here in Colorado and we publish them each election cycle.
Remember, gun rights are not about hunting. They’re about things like the Patriot Act.
Protect your current interests by buying Pmags and Ammo…
Protect your future interests by buying more M4’s…
Protect your family’s future interest in firearms by buying land to enjoy them…
Suppressors would be a good investment too.
Thanks, LD – that’s what I thought.
How can Romney have a B and McCain a C-?
Romney signed a ban into law.
McCain voted against the 94 AWB and voted against renewing it as an amendment with the lawsuit preemption bill a couple of years ago.
I suspect the GOA and the NRA are downgrading him due to campaign finance reform.
The worst thing that can be said about McCain is he supported background checks for private parties at gunshows.
I consider this a 1/100th as important as opposing a ban. He is arguably more pro gun that our current President.
Here’s how I decide who to support.
Who ever the MSM seems to dislike the most is the one I’ll support.
Dated, but a resource none the less…
