Can Trump deport bad winter drivers?

Thought about dredging up the “how cold is it” thread, but …

Anyway, I am fed up with folks who live in traditionally snowy/icy locales, some all their lives, who absolutely suck at winter driving. Not slamming on you folks who just got hit down in the southern states, y’all just ain’t got the practice time.

Yesterday we got a few inches of snow locally, temps never rose above freezing but there was enough heat to just melt the snow on the roads to slush, then it refroze. Those of you in colder climates know exactly how much fun that can be, roads become kinda nasty. We are talking half an inch of ice covering the rural roads that don’t get the regular attention of the plows and salters. Hijinks ensued.

My power went down around 4pm. The wife and I needed to run to the store anyway so we figured “good a time as any” since the power was out. Enough snow that I put it in 4wd to get out to the road, but as soon as I hit that icy mess I dropped it back into RWD and eased up the road at a nice, sedate 25-30 mph. Pretty slick, but NBD. Keep the speed down, take everything easy. Gentle wins the race, right? A few miles up we found the power problem. Some dumbass in their SUV had shot off the road, severed a pole and downed the lines. LE was onsite so we just eased on past. A mile or so up, some other brainchild was off the road, down the embankment. Again LE on scene, so we just got the thumbs up and carried on. Wash, rinse, repeat.

JHFC what is wrong with these people? Winter happens here. Pretty much same time every year. It almost predictable like.

Figure this stuff out or freaking move! For damn sure if you totally suck at driving in snow/ice, STAY HOME until the crews have manicured every paved surface to suit your miserable skill set. PLEASE! Last thing on your list should be dragging your townie ass out into the country to test your meager skills on unmaintained rural roads. :exploding_head:

Honestly, not a big impact on us. Drove to town, grabbed some staples and a meal out. But the LEOs, the wrecker drivers, and the power crews had their hands full. Power got restored sometime after midnight. Seriously though, Kristi Noam is from SD, she knows my pain. Mebbie she can deport these folks to Guatemala where they will never have to face snow and ice again.

We usually get at least some snow and/or ice here and mentioned in the other thread life largely comes grinding to a halt despite plows and salt. It is amazing all the people who panic and drive faster on snow than they ever would on a dry 72° day to outrun the danger

The food panic is strong here too.

We don’t get much snow around here. In the rare event that a couple inches is predicted folks will rush to the grocery store to buy all the bread and milk that will fit in a buggy. Upon the first snowflake or speck of ice they’ll drive into a drainage ditch. It’s just what Chattanoogans do.

I was in TN (NAS Memphis) back around 87 for a TAD gig. They got about a foot of snow and literally EVERYTHING shut down. I swear I think folks were preparing for the Rapture.

Of course in the span of like 2-4 weeks there were tornadoes, some heavy flooding, and then the snow so who can blame em.

I was just looking around at the place like “Damn. It like this all the time?”

Haha, that looks like my road.

I have a theory about this.

I’ve noticed it’s gotten worse since the COVID Plandemic. I theorize you’re witnessing transplants from totalitarian states like California having trouble adapting to the reality of their new home states and the weather conditions.

Their inability to drive on snow and ice, along with their inability to properly equip a vehicle to do so is a good identification method for deportation. At least back to California.

Good tires, and common sense go a long way.

Excellent purpose built tires, full time 4 wheel drive, common sense, and years of practice go even further.

A 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser on Michelin X-Ice Snow tires is damn near unstoppable unless you drive like a ham fisted moron.

I wish it was that simple here!

My Dad would come home from work during snow falls sounding like he was having a Tourette’s attack from all the ignorance driving home he had just witnessed. That was late 70’s to early 80’s when everyone should have been getting plenty of practice driving in snow too.

I don’t know if our snow dumbassery is genetic or cultural, but it runs deep. LoL

Lived here since the 90s… aways the same. Same when I lived in Charlotte during the 80s.

Much of my misspent youth was at Tahoe on weekends, including winters. VW bug did quite well.

The recent snow here was dry and tacky… perfect. Steep streets in the subdivision were nothing. Coondogg loves it.

People are just plain stupid when it comes to driving I swear! I lived in Upstate NY my whole life other than 4 yrs in AZ and about 5 in MT after the service but I ended up coming back. It’s like even NYers forget and there’s a ton of dumb ass drivers in the ditch or median on the NYS Thruway the first big freeze or snow. They think their “all-season” radials are just as good as real snow tires or they have front wheel drive and it can go anywhere, LOL Always seems like it’s the idiots with Subaru’s and Jeeps out in the weeds, as long as they don’t look hurt I just drive by! The funniest thing is we will get warm weather in late Feb, or early March and everything melts, then it snows and is cold again for another month and it’s like it starts all over again, LOL

Eh, we had 1” in Chicago on Wednesday. I actually saw 4 crashes in 15 miles on the expressway. I was doing 55-60 because of conditions. Each one of these idiots flew by at 75-80+. They deserve to crash. They deserve to sit there and freeze for a bit. They deserve to be hit with higher insurance. If they happen to be an ICE target and get deported, so be it. But they have enough to handle as is without throwing in the bad winter drivers.

In my teenage years I used to drive an Abrams Tank on icy and narrow German roads.
I can tell you, that was MF’ing exciting in about four inches of snow covered ice.

How you liking that new LC? I just heard they are having problems with the black plastics. Probably a supplier QC problem, but a problem they have to fix nonetheless.

So far we really like it. Could use a larger fuel tank, but that is a constant Toyota “problem” across all their vehicles in North America.

Yea…I’ve been eying an LRA aux tank for my 200 series LX. I’m sure they will eventually make one for the 250 series if it’s possible. Pricey, but everyone who has one says it’s one of the best investments they’ve done.

At least one company working on it for the 250, just not here. No idea if it is cross compatible and shipping might get a little pricey.

I know guys who have sourced parts from OZ for 4x4 projects. Like getting RHD parts for high steer conversions on TJs. The farthest I have personally gone with Aussie stuff is using Staun beadlocks, but they make some really cool products for their home market. Largely expeditionary/overlander type stuff.

They make nice stuff, a bit pricey but we keep vehicles forever so the investment would probably be worth it.

I would love to have picked up a 200 series but prices for them went bonkers, so not going to happen.

The 250 is probably a better fit for the NA market price wise, and is a return to a more utilitarian Land Cruiser in the NA market short of bringing a legal 70 series over here.

I do wish we got the new 300 series, but it would probably be in the mid $90K range starting and let’s face it, that puts the LC right back to super low sales numbers again like the 200 series.

I have been pleasantly surprised by the T24A-FTS and hybrid system combined with the 8 speed. Quite a bit more useable power than I expected. Kind of diesel like in power delivery, very good low RPM and mid RPM torque production, almost no point in revving it over 4500 RPM. Certainly not fast, but it’s not a penalty box and that almost instant torque helps it do quick overtakes on the road. Also interesting to creep around in low range on the electric motor at really low speeds. I do wish the tuning gave more top end power I suspect the ECU is pulling boost and fuel artificially beyond 4500 RPM.

Fortunately the aftermarket will support the engine because the T24A-FTS is in the Tacoma, and 4Runner. I expect there’s an easy 35-45 HP to unlock with some tuning that’s not even remotely aggressive. That would put it in the 315-320hp on the engine alone plus the 48hp electric motor for around 360-370hp and well over 500ft-lbs of torque. That would wake things up nicely I think and I will be looking for something along those lines once a few beta testers prove the engines don’t blow up. LOL.

The new Toyota infotainment system is a huge upgrade over previous generations. I like the heads up display. Digital rear view mirrors are the shit. And the cool box on ours, despite my reservations, does in fact make drinks cold; not really important day to day but pretty damn nice on a road trip. Also useful are the radar cruise control and lane keep assist, pretty nice under the right circumstances to take work load off the driver and help free up your attention to reading road signs, looking out for critters in the ditch etc. also does a nice job on windy days of keeping you centered in a lane.

They definitely seem nice. We looked at the 4Runner and Landcruiser for the wife. Just ended up hitting the easy button though and went with the 4 door short bed F150. Meh, it works.

No Toyotas for me personally, not that they aren’t great products. They just don’t make a one ton.

If Toyota would ever pull their heads out of their ass and offer a 1 ton diesel (that lived up to Toyota reliability) I think they would be pleasantly surprised at their market share.
