Bushmaster's new MASADA

I know you all already knew this but this is the first actual “in print” confirmation I’ve run across.

From Bushmaster Release

Bushmaster Firearms International, LLC (BFI) announced today that it has signed an exclusive license deal with Magpul Industries Corp. for the production, future development, and sales of Magpul’s prototype MASADA weapon system.

The Bushmaster ACR (Adaptive Combat Rifle) will initially be offered in 5.56 NATO, available for law enforcement and civilian purchase second quarter 2008. This release will be followed by military ACR versions in the 3rd quarter of 2008.

Without government funding or outside influence of any kind, the Masada concept was developed from scratch in Boulder, Colorado by Magpul’s Design Group. The Masada concept was first shown publicly at the 2007 Shot Show and its success prompted Magpul to spend a year redesigning the system for production.

The result is the ACR (Adaptive Combat Rifle) which keeps the fundamentals of the Masada concept with added advanced features such as firing pin block and true ambidextrous charging handle.

Among the ACR’s key features are a gas piston operating system, tool-less quick change barrel, multi-adjustable folding stock with integrated storage, and backward compatibility with a number of AR15/M16 parts. Due to similar operating controls, user transition from the M16 series of weapons is easily facilitated with minimal re-training.

The Bushmaster ACR will initially be available in 3 SKUS: Standard Carbine with fixed stock, Entry Carbine with folding stock, and Special Purpose Rifle with Precision Rifle Stock. Live fire demonstration and test and evaluations beginning in the end of March to qualified law enforcement, federal government agencies.

Should we expect the quality we thought we’d get from Magpul on this still?

Grant- like I asked earlier, what do you think the chances of those of us high on your list being the first to get this still?

Where did this come from?

Source? Assuming this is true and accurate…

If it’s close to the original I handled last year then more power to Rich and the crew.

I hope they got a ton of cash for the licensing and had a crafty lawyer draft a performance metric into the contract terms so that if Bushmaster farks it up, they can pull it back.

If this is true then for the first time in my life I’ll be tempted to buy a Bushmaster.

Well there were rumors elsewhere a few days ago. My source told me yesterday and I found this tonight.

We’ll see what Bushmaster does with it.

It already seems that all Magpul promotional material and pictures are out the door.

The article names three configurations- Fixed stock, folding stock and precision stock. Nothing like what we’ve hoped for.

I can only pray that Bushmaster is smart enough to know that we wanted these because of Magpul’s stellar reputation and to deviate would be very very costly.

And if that part works out, I sure hope Grant is willing to buy from BM so those of us up so high on his list can still get them.

ETA: Damn Wikipedia page will have to be edited.

Unfortunately in order to keep up with this thread tomorrow it will have to be done through the crackberry. Great…

If Bushmaster was smart they would let Magpul make the firearm, and then just stamp the Bushmaster name on it.

Anything more than that and my fanboy status for the rifle may be recinded.

Nothing on the Bushmaster website about this.

OMG

Bushmaster just hit the jack pot.

Maybe.

And keep in mind that Bushmaster is now owned by that same huge hedge fund that owns Remington and DPMS . . .

This is going to shock the industry.

I have wondered how Magpul was going to get them in out in large enough numbers to be viable.

I’m sure this is going to be a win-win for both companies and it’s a damn smart move. Magpul brings their weapon design & expertise and Bushmaster has the mass production expertise, production facilities, access to distributors, and dealer network.

I don’t know. Bushmaster can make an ok AR as they’ve been doing it awhile, but when I think of them making the Masada I keep getting this sinking feeling their going to screw it up in some way.:frowning:

No Thanks.

Good for consumers…

More Masadas sold in more places.

“Good” for me I guess, an extra $1,400 in my pocket… just adds to the tax return and rebate I suppose.

I totally agree… How did anyone think Magpul was going to produce these in mass qty’s and distribute them.

Bushmaster is smart to latch on to this. And if the design is as good as everyone thinks it is… Bushmaster will do fine, It’s not that they can’t maintain a standard… they just choose not to… big difference. and it’s not like every single Bushmaster ever made has fallen apart after a few hundred rds…

They have managed to make quite a few of them that have been pretty reliable over the years.

Plus with the mass production abilities, the price will actually be within reach of us regular earth people.

Should be interesting to see how this pans out, but anyway you slice it… having another 5.56MM Semi auto rifle being made in the U.S. is a good thing.

I saw this press release and my jaw dropped! Why Bushmaster??? Backlash has already started. Damn, & I was looking forward to this rifle! Definitely time to rethink that proposition! Sigh…:frowning:
