Built up an 5/7 not long ago

Well guys, it’s not a new new build but I figured I’d post it up anyways.

Sorry for the pic quality, it’s the best I can do for now. Click on pic for bigger image. I’ll hopefully have new pics shortly.

Yes, I’m one of the guys running a 5/7 upper right now (read many negative comments on such on here), but so be it. This isn’t my only upper by any means.

The build :

-Lauer (LMT) Lower
-CMC 3lb FCG
-D/D LPK
-A/P AR-57 upper
-Milspec Carbine Buffer
-Milspec M/P CTR Stock as the primary
-Non Staked Castle nut, with the Troy Arms sling mount clamping down the castle nut (effing awsome, as I have a Carbine Solid & ACE Skeleton stock I frequently throw on)
-Magpul rail covers
-Ergo Pistol Grip (Have a Tango Down for winter time, as the ergo seems too bulky with gloves)
-Magpul AFG
-Troy Arms MBUIS sights (needed due to the raised rail of the AR-57)
-Surefire 2 cell light mounted with one of my old scope mounts (can’t remember the part number for the S/F light.
-M/P Pmag hollowed out to use as a brass catcher
-Lubed up with Tetra Gun Grease (only stuff I use and like).

Gun is straight forward with no extra crap hanging off it, or bolted to it. It’s a tool, not a children’s toy IMO, so as on task tactical speaking the better IMO.

Probably going to pick up an E/O 5.7 tuned optic for the 5.7 upper, and most likely something else for the 5.56.

Before anyone feels a need to bash me, my AR57 is what I generally use and love. It fits what I need for defense, and hunting. I use EA ammo, which basically makes the FNH ammo seem like what it is (garbage).

Mods to be done :

Want to get a custom peened barrel to cut down on weight. Thinking about Adco, but not sure what I’m going to do yet.

Btw guys, any comments, suggestions, suggestions on companies who make custom barrels, etc would be great. I basically stated that 5.7 ordeal above as that IMO would be counter-productive for people just to say “get a different caliber” type ordeal. I have different calibers, so more looking for thoughts on this.

Isn’t it meant to eject spent casings through the mag well?

It would seem the P-Mag you pointlessly inserted there will jam your gun up in short order.

Shell catcher?

I was all hot to do a AR57 upper. They’re neat because you can shoot steel at close range without chewing up your gongs or getting fragged up from bullet splatter.

The deal breaker was that the uppers won’t run well in full auto. Too much bolt bounce which made the rounds fire out of battery and gave you bulged cases.

This would still be a fun suppressed semi auto gun.

That’s why I said a hollowed out pmag with no internals in it. The pmag will hold about 60 rounds before it’s full. And being a mag is 50 rounds, when target shooting, I can just pull the pmag at every normal mag change, dump the pmag in my dump pouch, and keep the casings dirt free. Makes reloading less of a headache.

They don’t catch because the casings drop straight down. They don’t kick out towards the mag walls at the start, they kick straight down. The mag has also been smoothed out a bit on the inside just to make sure there isn’t any dented casings due to being ejected into one of the pmag’s ribs.

Would make a pretty damn solid coyote gun suppressed =]

IMO the only downside to the upper is weight. It’s heavy as a biznatch, which is why I mentioned wanting a custom barrel. Peened and cut down as much as possible.
