i know that cheap and precision do not go together most of the time. I also know that getting a 700 that is not a 5R or senduro can be a crapshoot on accuracy. i think however i got very lucky. i found a used 700 AAC with a timney 510 trigger and weaver 20 MOA base bedded for $550 shipped that has had 2 boxes of ammo put through it.

The best part was my grouping. (my phone was dead but i will attempt to replicate and get pictures this weekend)
once zeroed i was able to get a group that could have been completely covered up with quarter @ 112 yards. the 6th shot still kept the about 33% of the bullet inside the existing whole but i felt myself pull the shot low so i believe that it was shooter error. the 7th shot had to have gone in the already opened up whole because i was not able to tell where it hit.
take these findings with a grain of since i was not able to get “evidence” of this since my phone had died. which is why i’m going to try to replicate the group this weekend (w/o the pulled shot of course)
take away the optics and figure that it has a folding modular Chassis, and for what it is at that point and its budget. i guess for me its considered budget because when pricing out my ideal setup was around 10k into what i “wanted” lol
yeah once i can outshoot both this rifle and this ammo i plan on upgrading to a GAP and doing my own handloads.
and yes a thunderbeast is the next thing on my list
Have a smith re-barrel your action and you’ll be every bit as accurate. If you don’t have anyone that you work with, TS Customs is who does my work. Very good work, and fast turn around time.
id like to send my bolt to get spiral flutted and a new knob installed but are far as any other smithing its fine i think. ejects like pro
oh and one thing that drives me nuts is that the bolt handle jumps when the hammer drops, i know it can be fixed but cant remember how.
it isn’t jumping out of battery or anything but i want the bolt to stay put when fired
I don’t disagree, but there is more than accuracy to be gained with a custom action.
for instance, the smooth and more reliable action of the surgeon 591 which you were describing a few months ago
and the stiffer action and thicker tangs help when using longer barrels and suppressors.
larger bolt handles and one-piece bolts are easier for gripping and ripping, and smaller tweaks like the side bolt stop with adjustable travel is much more ergonomic than that goofy button in front of the trigger.
Yes, I don’t disagree with that either. Surgeon 591 is still the best in my opinion… however, it doesn’t need to have GA precision’s name on it, in order for it to be built right. Lots of capable smiths out there that don’t have the advertising budget of GAP, nor as many rabidly loyal customers banging the gong on every corner of the internet.
Also, the M16 extractor on the surgon only comes with the bigger bolt face stuff. The .468 bolt face stuff has a regular remmy extractor.

I just dropped one of my testy 300’s off for a new barrel. It had a factory 5R that sucked. I have 3 others Sub MOA capable.
The other thing about the premium barrel, is it doesn’t take 6 weeks to find a good load. It will shoot more loads better. I hope it likes what my others like. 76 grains of H1000 under a 208 AMAX.
Go buy a premium barrel, as suggested. You can find them online. Buy your barrel and send it to Orkans guy or local , known good smith. It’s not a billy bob home project.
He doesn’t even have to buy a barrel if he doesn’t want to. We’ve got benchmark blanks on hand most of the time. Never had one shoot bad yet.

Just overall cost of the platform and ammo? This wouldn’t be a high round count gun so do the ballistics of the 300 win mag win? What about 6.5 creedmor?
Wow, just WOW!! If it shoots as good as it looks, you have a winner in my book. Absolutely love the Tactical stock, it’s exactly what I want. Been poking around for something better than my factory Rem 700 stock… I like that it does not require bedding, or a gunsmith to install, free floating, easy maintenance… damn homerun!! It’ll cost more than my 700 cost but… worth every penny to me. Thanks for showing it off!!
