Both My Eotech XPS-2s Delaminated, Now the Question Is

So both of my Eotech XPS-2s have sh!t the bed and delaminated, of course Eotech sent RMAs and will fix them.
But danged if I’m not a bit put off by this happening to so-called top tier optics.
Maybe to one unit by chance, but to two, that’s an inherent design flaw.

So I’m ready to look elsewhere at optics, both holographic and standard RDS.

What say y’alls for recommendations?

Upgrade to Aimpoint MicroT2 or Comp M5?

I’ve also been looking at the following,
Vortex, UH-1 Gen II
Holosun, AEMS or HE512T or HE515CT
Sig, Romeo04T-Pro or Romeo8H

Do you use nighr vision?
Do you run a magnifier?
How much does reticle matter?

My default answer is the romeo4xt pro, but answers open up more options.

Hello and thanks for the reply.

No NV at this time, no immediate plans for NV.
I have one 3X magnifier behind a T1 on a 20" AR.
For CQ/HD and out to 100yds I prefer Dot in Circle, e.g. the Eotechs were on my KP9 and 10.5 AR SBR
But on 16" and 20" PCC and rifles I use single dot RDS, and an LPVO.

I’ve heard that the MRO HD isn’t plagued by the MRO’s parallax problem, but I cannot find trustworthy sources to verify this or not. But I’d love to hear about it if anyone reading this can confirm that it’s been fixed or not because I liked it when in store checking one out.

If one were to go TOS asking about it, you’d see a four page plus post of gnashed teeth either demonizing the MRO or defending the MRO, meanwhile no one answering the OP’s question on whether or not the MRO HD suffers from the same issue.

You mentioned being a fan of the circle dot so that’s why I mentioned the MRO HD.

And speaking of which, I’ve owned the Romeo 4T Pro, didn’t like the circle dot that it has but it’s there and another option.

You mentioned LPVO’s. Have you thought about getting the PLxC? DOE issues it by the way.

Id look hard at the romeo4xt pro.

You can rotate between reticles, they have 1 dot, 4 dots (for elevation), each with or without a circle. It pairs well with a magnifier if you want to get past 300yds. Lack of windage is still an issue, but its a little help.

What does that mean?

“Sh!t the bed”, it means they broke, malfunctioned, inoperable and other such synonyms.
Delaminated, the glass used in the optic is layered, the layers have started delaminating.
I.e. separating, losing cohesion, cleaving

That’s what I was asking about specifically. I am familiar with “shit the bed”

I ask because I have one XPS that I don’t run very often and want to be aware of potential issues.

Look up images of Eotech delamination to familiarize yourself.
It can affect either front or rear glass.
Unfortunately it seems to be a fairly common issue.
Eotech will fix it. but doesnt really GAF about the issue as an inherent product deficiency.

It still blows my mind that so many special ops guys favor the Eotech which has had no shortage of reliability issues.

I get what you are saying about how much they favor it but to be fair these guys have the budget to swap batteries before each mission or train ups, and if the optic goes down there’s still plenty more because they buy these things by the freight load. Mil logistics on the US side is to treat the supply issue the same as we would in combat; by being disproportionate.

Ever wonder why there’s always extra food at meals in the mil despite doing tedious headcounts? To account for any troop losing their meal by accident and if any happen to be there and weren’t accounted for. The same folk that order the food also order the ammo, expendable items (batteries for this topic) and property book items (the optics in this case). They are taught to do this at AIT, and again at whatever they are calling both BNOC and ANOC these days.

No dog in this fight but I am of interest to the new EXPS DCR NVG compatible version that’s come out. Just waiting for it to come down in price or at least showing up at the shops other than Eotech’s site for a better price before buying one for myself.

I really like the Eotech because of it’s huge FOV, utilitarian reticle and its lack of significant parallax combine to make it a very good CQ/HD optic.
Combine those with it’s general durability and usability when obscured or damaged, who wouldn’t like it?

Yep it has a few issues, battery life is one I can deal with.
But the delaminating glass is rubbing me wrong even though I knew it was a possibility.
Guess I was just another sucker thinking it won’t happen to me.

I’ll probably keep one or both, see if it happens again.
I also wanna try some other options as per above, variety is good, and I already have a pretty good variety going on.

I have Holosun 2x HS515CM and 1 HD515GM.

I like all of them, but(and it is ultimately neither here nor there) really prefer the non solar GM due to being able to change battery with a coin instead of the little T10 Torx screws on the CM battery tray.

The solar panel could obviously come in handy with a dead battery and no spare, but the Holosun light sensing/adjusting feature on those is of dubious value since it is no where near as fast as Trijicon RMR models(Holosun SCS integral battery model auto adjust is a whole different story and does work very well).

All of mine have good battery life, work well, and match up to Vortex micro magnifiers(I prefer the 3x over the 5x).

The included glass lens covers with the Holosuns are a very nice touch.

Not sure if it is related to parallax in anyway, but I have heard the HD isn’t always friendly with magnifiers either.

A friend’s standard MRO is how I acquired the Holosun 3x and 5x.

That is something of an irritation considering some very low end dots pair just fine with magnifiers.

I have no difficulty with my higher end M5 and T2 Aimpoints being paired with the G45 or the G33 when I owned it. Now the lower end Duty and Pro have the same issues if you aren’t looking directly centered, a coma appears until you re-center yourself

My interest in the MRO HD isn’t for magnifying. It’s for as a PCC taking advantage of it’s light weight and still getting a circle dot.

I tried a Hensoldt PZF sight with a PRO and it was ok with my eyes, but I had bought the PZF used with an Aimpoint twist off mount and didn’t like it.

The standard MRO plus Vortex magnifiers could not get the downrange image and dot crisp simultaneously. One was crisp and the other a blur that couldn’t be used.

The MRO wasn’t a true 1x so it’s to be expected with that one. But my question still remains unanswered: Is the MRO HD free of the parallax issues that the MRO has?

OP was looking for circle dot options other than Eotech. If someone has the answer then the MRO HD may or may not be a circle dot replacement for his Eotech XPS. The MRO non HD isn’t a circle dot option so I don’t think mentioning it with or without magnifiers has any validity here IMO.

I have 2 exps 3 and 2 razor amg hueys, all with magnifiers. I vastly prefer the vortex. Also have the romeo 4t. Its… ok. Its a dot doing what dots do. Nothing better or worse than my aimpoints. I only have an original mro. It sucks, but for 250/300 (used going rate( its functional)

I use nv, short range use for all these optics). If im not using nv, i really like lpvos.
