I normally work on Sunday so that one may be out. I like competitions, but dislike the waiting around. I’ll have to check out that other site to see the location, etc. One of these days, I need to do a Glock match, keep saying that! Like Deniro says in Heat- “When I get around to it”
Time is usually a big factor for me. I didn’t know about the last one until someone pointed it out to me. I would like to make the next one though!
Hey Rob, just talked to Ralph with the club, a revised score sheet is coming out later. I’m not sure if it’s one squad or everyone. I think he mentioned that on one stage the yadded the 5th run?

Dude you finished third in the Limited class shooting a bone stock G17. I’d say that’s pretty damn good because the rules are basically stacked against you.
I think Mark was saying he didn’t know how the messed up the scores before. From looking at my score sheets it looks like the added all four strings of fire on one stage when they were supposed to only keep the 3 best of the 4 on that stage and the 4 best of 5 on all others.
For January, I’ll be there along with the rest of the Team VA Arms (Brett S, Luis G,) and some friends from up here too.
That sounds right Rob, Ralph said what it was and I forget. I might try the next one with the 686, 6 shot. I would like to get in the top 10 with it overall.
It could definately be won with a revolver. You would only have 1 shot left in your gun before a reload if you missed, just don’t miss and if you do not more than once per string of fire.
At Blackwater Steel Challenge everyone is Minor. Their definition of Minor was anything under 140PF.
For USPSA yes, MAJ-165PF, Min-125PF. No one is chrono’d though so it’s the honor system.
Limited MAJ .40 or larger and 165PF
Open MAJ .355 or larger and 165PF
Prod Min 9mm or larger and 125PF (all scored as minor)
FYI pretty much all factory 180gr .40 makes Major, and pretty much all 9mm 115gr and 124gr makes Minor. Some 9mm 147gr doesn’t make it.
I watched some shooters during the Steel Challenge shoot .40’s Handloads and they weren’t even close by watching the recoil, I asked the shooter about it and he stated he loaded them real light. I know it used to be 175 PF, the then new .40 crowd whinned because they had to load the rounds “hot” according to them(165’s). Couple that with shoddy reloading and a few KB’s and IPSC lowered the pf.
For a 147 9mm not making 125 pf is less than 850fps
There was no minimum power factor for the Steel Challenge at Blackwater, but they did want everyone no matter what under 140PF because of the close steel. And yes you can make .40 handloads in 2011s a lot lighter than factory 9mm. My buddies load today was 5.0gr of Titegroup loaded long (I forget how long) pushing a 180gr ZERO JHP at 1000fps which was making 180PF at 1000fps. At 4.8gr he was 165.2PF (almost Minor) at the NC Sectional, so now he has to try 4.9gr. My STI shooting the same 4.8gr load made on the same Dillon press was making 175PF.
Yes USPSA did change the PF about 10yrs ago IIRC. It was do to people blowing guns up which I believe was the biggest reason for making Limited Major .40 cal or larger. People were pushing .38 Supers and 9x19 WAY TOO hard. Honestly I think there should be a different way of measuring power. Maybe having a device that measure how hard a bullet actually hits a target.
I guess I have to shoot .38’s then, just when I thought I could burn off the paint with the .357!
Me personally, I think they should go by hits, minimum .380. After all, it did start as defensive shooting. That way it gives the people who want to shoot their carry a shot at doing something other than paper on a static range-not saying it replaces a class, etc.
I won’t be there. I’m giving my elbow a break till March. I’m hoping not shooting handguns and doing a lot of stretching will make the tennis elbow in my left elbow go away.
I’ll be there. Chris is working (like a wee girl). Still haven’t completely decided what to shoot though. It’s either the new RRA or the G19. I don’t have enough mags to run the M&P.
