Blackwater Steel Challenge Nov 19th

I shot my M&P9 (3rd match with it so far), and didn’t do too bad. I did my own trigger job, I’m using a Wolff steel Glock 17 recoil rod and 15lb recoil spring, Dan Burwell rear sight, Speed Shooters Specialty front sight and skateboard tape. I used American Eagle 115gr FMJ. It was a great match and I’d love to shoot it again, I think there’s one in the Spring 07.

We shot 7 stages from the Nat’l Steel Challenge, I shot a total score of 142.58
my scores were:

Showdown 18.98, Pendulum 24.12, Accelerator 19.61, Roundabout 17.77, Outer Limits 23.38, Speed Option 23.06, Smoke & Hope 15.66

How do you like your M&P? Looks like a great shooter. I am anxiously awaiting the .45 ACP.

I love it. The M&P to me doesn’t feel much different at all than my STI 2011 that I’ve been shooting in Limited all year. I’ve handled (not shot) the .45 M&P about a month ago (Ernest Langdons) and it’s damn nice. Rumor has it that it will be available in a few months.

I’ve seen better looking mugs at the dollar store…J/K Rob

I heard it was a blast…literally.

G

I’ve had better days, alot of fun though! Todd J. needs to pick it up! I shot my stock G17, level III duty rig. Nato pressure 124 grain loads.

Awesome I was 3rd in Production and 12th overall. Not too bad for my 3rd match shooting the M&P9. I do need to work on my draw speed, I got spoiled shooting a Race style holster (Ghost holster) w/my STI all year.

I guess they said since I was using the 17 round mag I had to do limited even though it was stock.

Mark

It’s BS that they made you run Limited just because you had 17 round mags. The guy specifically told me that I could use my 15 rounders, just to load them with 10.

When is the December match?

There isn’t a December match. There should be one in January if it isn’t snowing.

No big deal in a sense. I used one mag anyhow for two runs so I could have loaded them to 10 to be in the Production class if I knew.

That’s the first IPSC match I’ve done in about 10 years. I stopped doing them at Dam Neck when people you or anyone never see shoot always won and then the sand baggers on the qualifiers.

This club seems pretty squared away though

I think they have them every third Sunday?

Mark

Alright, I’m looking forward to it. We can shoot while it’s snowing can’t we?

That’s right, I forgot them saying that!

I noticed the November scores seem slower in the past as well, I guess the cooler weather and bulky clothing. It all matters some!

skateboard tape.

I owe you a mod…I can do the snakeskin treatment for you if you like.

Harlan

snakeskin? Neat. Let’s see pics of that on the M&P please!

No external mods other than skateboard tape and sights are allowed in Production division. But thanks for the offer Harlan.

Harlan

Looks nice. I’ll have to find a detailed photo of the standard stippling to compare. I can’t seem to remember it at the moment.

Here’s a pic from Dan Burwells site, I’m planning on sending him my M&P9 Compact for blasting off the melonite of the slide, barrel, take down levers and slide stop and doing the melt job on the slide. I probably have him stipple the front strap and grip insert and mag extension. And whenever Scott Warren comes out with his night sights for the M&P I’ll get them for this compact. Currently I’m using 2 Burwell M&P rear sights on my fullsize M&P9s, one with a stock front sight and one with a Speed Shooters Specialties fiber optic front sight.

Rob, Did SW go to a drop in extractor on these, or are they still a fitted part like on the older 59/69 series?

Mark

I do believe they are drop-in. But Brownells isn’t selling the extractor, spring or pin. I’ll ask Ernest next time I see him. I’ve heard they are a bitch to get out. I haven’t tried removing one yet.

Mark you should come out to the Fredericksburg USPSA matches. The next one is scheduled for March 2007 and runs through Nov 2007, it’s always on the first Sunday of the month. It’s $20 and always has at least 7 stages (usually 175-200 rounds or more match) 1 stage is always a classifier which is posted to USPSA.com

So you get a lot of shooting for the money. http://www.vamdsection.org/ IMO it’s the best USPSA match in VA by far. If you’re going to be shooting Production wear at least 4 mags, some stages are upwards of 40 rounds. Come on up (it’s a little far for , make M4arc drive  ), you can give me a run for my money, I’ll be shooting Production probably all next year.
