Best Muzzle Attachment For 12.5"

I’m a big fan of the FSC556. But I’m afraid that it’ll have a bark to wake the dead on an SBR. I still prefer a brake of some sort because I’m not LE, and won’t be using it for SD. Since I’ll be shooting it at the range 100%, I’d prefer a brake.

I’m thinking of the PWS SM556. It’s shorter and the ports aren’t as big, so I’m thinking it won’t be AS loud.

The Spike’s Dynacomp Short is known for being a bit heavy but nearly as effective (keep muzzle down) as the BCE. It’s also nearly half the price of the BCE.

Originally, I thought the BCM 1.0. But have read that some have had accuracy issues, it has to be installed just right, and that it keeps the muzzle down but increases recoil straight back.

If you own a SBR Im assuming you can get a suppressor. I vote suppressor. Its MUCH needed on a SBR!

Watch this whole video and tell me the SBR doesnt need a can on it. lol

When the can is on you mostly hear the bullet slam the hell outta the metal backstop.

And 1:00 into this one its outdoors and I do a before after suppressor

First, think about putting a suppressor on at some point (as it should be illegal to shoot a gun under 14" without a can on it).

With that thought in mind, think about which brand of suppressor you would go with and then buy that companies adaptor. So when you go with that can, you will have part of the process already completed.

Edited to add, in regards to accuracy and the BC, I don’t understand how that is possible (as no FH, MB, Adaptor) can influence accuracy enough for you to notice. What DOES affect accuracy is tension on the barrel. This is why we use spacing washing when installing ANY device onto the muzzle to ensure that excessive torque is not used.

My choice is not on your list: Surefire MB556K. This is what I have on my 12.5" gun and I love it. The muzzle does not lift at all during rapid fire. Is it loud? Yes. Is the trade-off worth it? To me, yes. I don’t make a lot of friends at the range, though…

I currently live in a state that does not allow suppressors but does allow SBRs. If our laws are changed or I move to a free state in the future, I will probably end up with a Surefire can also.

I guess I wish I did more research before running into the SBR stuff. I thought they’d be cool and fun, and they are. But i didn’t think that they’d require a suppressor.

I did a fair amount of research on suppressors. Gets pricey quick. I even sold some parts to start saving up. Seems like for it to be worth while, you need to spend $1K plus. After looking at the surefire, AAC and KAC, I’ve decided that it’s too much $ solely for the consideration of my fellow shooters. I have both a 12.5 and a 10.5 and I haven’t got any complaints at my outdoor range (I don’t think I’d want to shoot my 16"+ rifles indoors). That doesn’t mean they don’t quietly grumble. Of course, I don’t blast through 2 mags at a time. If it was too obnoxious for my fellow shooters, then I’d just get a Noveske KX3. I know the weight of the suppressor will help keep jump down, but it increases the recoil impulse. I’m wanting get away from that.

Also, suppressor life seems to be dramatically shortened in SBRs. Another detractor to the $1K+ investment, and process. Right now form 4s are taking around 6 to 8 months, and if I go with a supressor I’d wait for that to subside a bit.

All in all, I don’t see an advantage for this civie to get a suppressor. It seems like $ better spent on another rifle.

Do they “require” a can? No. If I was King for a day, they would!

Many people are too polite to say something about your annoying loud AR.

SBR’s CAN shorten the life of the can, but if you use a MB, they absorb a good amount of the abuse so you will be fine.

A suppressor is the FIRST thing I would buy in the NFA world. Why? Can make certain AR’s hearing safe, improve accuracy, increase FPS AND makes SBR’s more comfortable to be around.

Go shoot your SBR in a closed room without hearing protection and let me know how that goes for you.

I’m guessing you don’t have any time behind a suppressed gun. If you lived by me I’d let you try all mine out and you’d quickly change your mind. I don’t look at it as for my fellow shooters. Its for me. No muzzle blast and hearing damage. IMHO if your at a damn shooting range you better expect it to be loud. lol

Don’t get me wrong. All valid points. If I could do it all over again, I might get a suppressor first. At this time, all things considered, might not be my best move.

PWS… I have the PWS and the BC I like the PWS better.

How bad is the noise and blast on a 12.5 upper?

My 12.5" is easier to handle with an AAC Blackout than my 14.5" is with an AAC Brakeout.

I would hope you’d also make them available same-day with a NICS. :dance3:

Grant for president!

Grant, do you use a peel washer with a Vortex, AAC or A1 FH too?
