So I am infatuated with weight reduction on my SBR :rolleyes:, so I decided to try the Bobro sights in lieu of buying another set of Troy’s
They are lighter, but the thin profile is nice too. When the front sight is folded down, you can wrap the thumb around the top of the hand guard a little easier. I have a 10" KMR and I like to grip it right up against the front of it.
The Low Riders have no detent or locking mechanism that hold them up or down, so if the sight is deployed, and bumped against something, they would fold up pretty easily I think.
I’m not sure that I really gained a whole lot over the Troy BUIS I was using before these.
All of my testing and trial is on the range running drills, so I can’t offer any “real world” experience with them.
This. I have the BOBROs for an ultralight build and they are neat, especially if you need really low clearance sights under an optic but MBUS PROS all the way on a fighting gun. The only thing I wish the MBUS PROS had was a slimmer front sight post like the KAC micro front but they are near perfect otherwise: melonited steel construction; tool-less adjustment with stiff detents; detent open but do not lock open for durability in falls; the front sight is remarkably compact when folded; same-plane, dual flip-down apertures; Magpul R&D and QC ensure consistency between deployments and adjustments.
The BOBROs are nice do not inspire confidence of durability, IMO. The rear aperture is about in between the diameter of the two A2 apertures, which is fine. Tool required adjustment I don’t like. I would not take go to war with them over other options.
Same here. I have one on a 20" flattop Colt, and I’m got to wait until I can take it someplace and stretch it’s legs, get it out to 500 meters. I’ll probably burn a day in a few weeks when it cools off, and head over to Tiger Valley.
I just got a set of magpul pro’s off of amazon for 151$ (free two day prime shipping), that tough to beat.
The only con I have is they do not lock up, otherwise they are full of pros (size, weight, no tools to adjust)
I put them on a gun where they are truly back up for an optic that goes down. I really really don’t expect the optic to go down.
Other wise I have something like 4 sets of troys. I would feel perfectly happy using troys as primary sites. As actual ‘back ups’ I will continue to buy the MBUS pro.
Curious way people consider it a “Con” that the Magpul Pros don’t lock up? I see that as a good thing. In the event of a drop, they’re likely to just fold down. If they were to lock up like the Troys, there’s a good chance that they could be tweaked to the point of being unusable.
I really like the KAC 2-6 micro rears. Since being low profile with the front sight doesn’t matter, I like to pair them with DD fixed front. But plenty of my rifles have mbus polymer buis and they have been more than fine.
It depends on what direction the impact is coming from. Sure the MP is likely to fold if impacted from the front but from the side or rear there all the same. The fact that it can be folded down by incidental contact is a severe liability to me.
I’m curious to try the LMT flip-up irons on my MWS as well. Price is ouchy considering they’d be regulated to back-up duty. I’d shoot with them sans optic just to get my money’s worth.
I used the polymer Magpul sights, I saw a video and review posted on here a year or two ago with 4-5’ drop tests directly top down onto the sights to simulate a real drop… they used KAC, Troy and Magpul, the Magpul broke but still kept Zero (idk how) the troy broke and went far off zero and the KAC also broke and did not keep zero… ill try to find and repost on here later.
I have Troys on a couple of rifles and they are great sights. I just picked up set of the Magpul PROs for an additional upper that I put together and I really like them. They are very compact when they are stowed and I like the sight picture when shooting with them.
I really liked the design and economy of the old MBUS but I never liked the sight picture/ears on the front sight when shooting.
