Best holster to use with an FLC vest?

I’ve been looking at websites all over the net for an appropriate holster, but if anything there are too many choices.

I have my FLC vest set up with four M4 mag pouches in the front around the zipper (bottom molle rows on both sides of zipper). On the sides I have canteen pouches.

I have considered replacing the right hand side canteen with a pistol holster, but since I spend extended hours at the outskirts of my ranch I’d rather have the extra water. I also do extensive walking, and the carbine ends up banging into the handgun too much when I carry this way.

This leaves me with only the upper mesh portion of the FLC vest’s molle straps to mount a holster.

I’m thinking of putting an IFAK on the right side above the M4 mag pouches, so that leaves the left breast area as the only opening for a cross-draw holster.

What do you guys recommend?

I cannot find a cross-draw holster to my liking.

Should I go with a drop leg (I’d rather not because I think it would snag on dense brush)?

I’d even consider a molle pistol “case” or “pouch” since the handgun would only be there for up-close-and-personal stuff and it doesn’t necessarily need to be out in the open. In other words, more like a backpack gun.

Or should I reconfigure my vest?

The handgun is a Glock 22, but I’ve considered a G26 or 27 to save space.

What would you guys recommend?

I would just use a belt holster and forget about mounting the pistol on the rig…

This, exactly. The only folks I’ve encountered who seriously think mounting a holster off the MOLLE on an FLC are bootenants who simply don’t know any better. Hip or thigh, between those a low riding hip holster is probably ideal.

I’ll admit I’m a noob with Molle gear. Up until I bought my AK four years ago and switched to a lifchik type vest, I was stuck using Vietnam era ALICE gear because I got a set cheap.

Over the weekend I rearranged the mag pouches on my FLC so that I’ve got three to the left of the zipper and one to the right. This leaves a space at about the appendix position for a pistol holster. I hadn’t planned to even use a belt because I wear suspenders with my BDU trousers.

Now this might not be the best way to go?

What do you suggest in the way of belts and holsters?

Really it’s as simple as not wanting my pants to fall down with the weight of the pistol and extra mags!

A decent belt will bear a full sized pistol, 2 pistol mags and a rifle mag with absolutely no problem. This is how pistols have been carried for a long time.

If you don’t want to put your pistol on your belt, just drop a rifle magazine and drop the pistol in a mag pouch (as long as you have some kind of retention with the pouch).
