Recently I bought a 9mm Dan Wesson Valor Commander in 9mm. I’m looking to standardize all my 1911 magazines. My plan is to go with the Wilson 47 HD/+P 7 round 45 magazine with a slim baseplate for my carry guns, Wilson ETM HD/+P’s for my magwell guns.
For my DW, I’m looking for a reliable 9 round (or 10 round) mag that doesn’t have a ridiculously huge baseplate on the bottom. Something similar to a 47 with the thin steel baseplate.
What are the suggestions from the group?
Also, I’ve seen lots of comments regarding 47’s and ETM’s hitting the ejector on 1911’s. Is this a widespread issue?
Wilson has a 9 round fullsize mag out now, but I haven’t tried 'em.
Metalform welded base 9 rounders with the front ramp are 100% in my Wilsons. It’s what I carry in the gun, with ETMs for reloads. I only put 9 in my reloads to facilitate easier reloading.
If the mags hit your ejector take a tiny ball bit on a dremel and clearance it.
I may be the only one here but I hate the the Wilsons for 9mm mags. For 9 round mags I use Colt mags and for 10 round mags I will take Mecgar all the way.
I’ve used the Dawson Precision 10 round 9mm mags with the tactical base pad since 2015. No problems. They are made by Metalform and Dawson installs their base pad assy.
I have used the Wilson Combat ETM HD+P .45 Auto mags since 2013 without a single failure. The square spring is the sh!t- those mags run in all my 1911s.
Metal form welded base stainless magazines the holes are already there to add base pads………I usually add wolff extra power springs………I also like mec-gar magazines too…
There is not one best mag. It is whatever the gun was designed around. My STI 9mms use Metalform. I tried meg gar and wilson and they jammed the gun up completely. Went back to metal form, no issues. In 45 I have had a lot of luck with Wilsons and Chip McCormick in my springfields.
I noticed my Chip McCormick mags didnt slam into my magwelled 1911’s so well. They worked but required much more effort than my Wilson ETM mags to slam into gun. In the 9mm variety.
