Barrets Rec 7 rifle/upper?

I havnt read any thing about Barrets 6.8 rifle here any body have any experince with them and opinions? And from what ive read on a site will the rec 7 upper fit on a standard ar lower?

I had a Rec 7 about two years ago. The version with the ARMS flip up sights (the first generation–they no longer come stock with the flip up sights). I did try it on a LMT lower and it fit but I never fired it with that lower. I sold the Rec 7 when I got an offer that I couldn’t refuse.
BTW, the Rec 7 I had came stock with a commercial sized (not mil-spec) buffer tube. I realized this only after purchasing a milspec Vltor EMOD stock. I found it a bit bizarre. I don’t know if they are still using commercial or not.

I’ve got a new production REC-7 at our shop. They do not ship with sights now, but do come with a DD Omega X 9.0 rail. There’s a MOE stock already on the gun, but tomorow I will check if it’s Mil or Com tube and report back. And it ships with one Barrett 30rd. 6.8mm mag, which have been the smoothest running 6.8 mags I’ve yet encountered.

Yes the upper will function on a standard lower, though our REC-7 shipped with an H2 buffer IIRC.

Heres a link to their site: http://www.barrett.net/firearms/rec7

It looks like a real nice rifle, I wonder why they are not more popular?

Well thats why i posted this for as long as ive been on here ive not read or heard any thing about these rifles or uppers. I was hopeing some one would give a reason why they are not is it price quality but i cant see barret having bad quality.

Does anyone have experience with the 5.56mm version of the Rec7 yet?

Chris

They are quality rifles. There were a few issues/concerns that I found and that I’ve heard from others.
Until just recently it only came in 6.8. That narrows the crowd significantly as the ammo is expensive. The recent intro of the 5.56 may attract more attention.
In addition, it is a piston driven platform. That is a drawback for some people.
Also, until recently Rec 7 came with ARMS front rails. Not a favorite. However, it was a great change to go with Daniel Defense.
Another gripe I heard from other is that we liked the so-called first generation and they changed it up. The first gens came standard with folding sights and also had suppressor threads right in front of the gas block (same suppressor threads on Barret 468 uppers). These changes didn’t impact function – bottom line is that from what I can tell is they don’t look as cool. But, frankly, I was not a huge fan of the ARMS flip up sights and I didn’t want to buy a Barrett suppressor.
Two years ago I probably would have purchased a Barrett 5.56 piston rifle but now LMT makes a fine piston system that is about $500-$600 less.

Overpriced for what you get.

+1, They’re tough as nails thats for sure. But the rails are old heavy dinosaur age technology

Yeah, I kinda thought so too.

hell yea… complete rifle msrp is like 2500 bucks… no sights, a basic omega x rail, and a MOE stock. i know the 6.8s fetch a premium, but not $2500 worth.

The Omega X is a heavy outdated rail?

Guessing he’s referring to the ARMS rail system, which were on the barretts until just recently when they saw the light and went with DD rails.

Yea the first gen came with ARMS flip-up sights and rail which alot of people didnt like.

Now the newer Gen rifles come with no sights at all and have replaced the ARMS with a DD Omega rail which was the best decision Barret could have made rail wise.

I prefer DD’s Lite rails instead of the Omega rails but either way it coming stock with a Omega is a good thing.

The main reason u dont hear too much about the Rec 7 is because of “bang for buck”. Its pretty expensive and u really dont get much for that top dollar.

I will say the rifle does function extremely well and the Piston System they use is really nice.

But since the 5.56 has now been introduced ull prolly see more people picking them up than what were with the 6.8

Id much rather pick up a LMT over the Barret but it all comes down to personal preference.

Piston.
