Barnes TSX50 reloading data ?

Does anyone have any load data for this bullet ? I’d like to stock up on the new 5.56 nato black hills barnes TSX 50 hollow points bullets for SHTF but @ $ 69.95 per 50 rounds that’s more than I can afford to spend right now.I did order a couple boxes of the Barnes Triple-Shock X Bullets 22 Caliber (224 Diameter) 50 Grain Hollow Point Flat Base Lead-Free Box of 50 from midway usa for $ 26.49 each.

Has anyone with a chronograph worked up any loads similar to the Black Hills barnes TSX50 ? I’ve looked for load data for the Barnes TSX50 in my few reloading manuals I own but couldn’t find anything other than the barnes webpage only list two powders for the 50 gr bullet
A-2460 and H4895.

I have H335 and ramshot tac available and was hoping to use them rather than having to purchase another brand of powder.

The bullets you ordered arent the same bullet being used in the BH 5.56 load.

Ok got any any links or data that shows the difference between the two bullets.

Nobody is giving up the secret formula. Load the standard TSX bullets that are available and rock on. They’ll do a fine job.

I think I’d start by measuring the length of the bullet and comparing it to a 55 grain conventional cup/core bullet’s length. Then start with some 55 grain bullet data, even though it’s a 50 grain.

When I get my hands on some of the 50 grain bullets, I’ll probably be testing with Varget and Tac.

JStor thanks for the heads up… If I can find any of the new Black Hills barnes TSX 50 locally I’ll pick up a box and pull a bullet so I can compare it to the barnes TSX bullet and post a picture.

Does anyone have any new load data for the 50 gr TSX?
Thanks
PS Barnes has included Reloader10 data for 223 and 556 on their site.

I use a 50 vmax with 24.8g of TAC at 2.200 OAL it is my magic varmint load. It easily does sub MOA out of my 1-7 twist carbine, and .3 MOA out of my R700 1-9 twist bolt action.
I recently loaded up 800 rounds using mixed once fired brass, sized and trimmed on my Dillon 650 with RT1200 trimmer. Took and fired every single one through both guns with my son on Montana prairie dog hunting trip this summer. Results were just devastating all the way out to 400 yards

OP, here’s a link to some good stuff on the BH Barnes 50g TSX: https://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=75298

Big difference between the 50g and other TSX offerings is that it is more “robust” design so it’s more barrier blind. However I believe I’ve read that the expansion threshold is a lot higher because of it. It needs something like 2300 fps (compared to around 1800 fps for other Barnes rounds like the much heralded 70g).

Makes it great for LE/CONUS use whereas other rounds are more suited to hunting (no barriers to defeat first).

I have been slowly stocking up on the 50g rounds but have no actual experience with them on live targets.

Wow impressive. Thanks for the info.
Any problem crimping ?

Rocksteady, as far as I understand commercially available TSX 50s are not the same as the Black Hills TSX 50.

I called Barnes today and they emailed me new data for .223 and 5.56. 5 or 6 for each of them. I don’t know if I can post that info here or even link the 2 loads for each they have on the website.

Forgot to mention that. Looks like the 55 and 62 grain TSXs are the ones available to reload. Both are pretty darn good it would appear; just not as good as the BH 50 when it comes to barriers.

Roc, 50 gr TSX are available

No crimp obviously not an issue with a bolt gun and for this trip slow fire taking careful aim with a carbine for hunting. No issues with slam fires.

Jeez, where have I been. Thanks, good to know.

I’m running 70 g tsx and 24.3g of r15 One Raged hole from my mrp. Why would the black hills bullet be different than a standard tsx?

Per Doc Roberts:
" The 50 gr TSX bullet used in the BH load is NOT the same one that is currently commercially available as a reloading component. " and
"As noted before, no. The BH purportedly uses a different more robust 50 gr TSX design. "

is a really informative thread.

Thank you for your email. *There is no difference at all between the two. *The only thing that differs is that the mil/le goes through military testing before being packaged. *For hunting the TSX would be the way to go.

Ryan Banks/ customer service Barnes bullets

I got this response from Barnes yesterday when I asked the diffrence between the 70g tsx and the 70g tsx mil/ le.

Okay, cool Then there is also this:

Molon has a pic of the Barnes 70 gr TSX and the 70 gr TAC-x M/LE side by side and ask:
“Can you tell the difference between the Barnes 70 grain M/LE TAC-X Tactical Bullet and the Barnes 70 grain TSX Triple-Shock X bullet?”

I have found the TAC X’s to be cheaper by a few buck per box on a couple of sites.
