I recently got a Ballistic Advantage Hanson profile 16" mid-length.
The pin didn’t come “pinned” in the barrel.
Are the set screws for the gas block torqued from the factory?
If not, what do I torque them to?
Am I to assume I just go ahead and install the pin from right to left?
I’ve tried repeatedly (phone & email) to get up with BA to ask these questions, but no joy.
You will want to install the pin first to avoid set screwing the barrel and gas block holes in to misalignment. In all honesty the pin is really all that is needed. It is a straight pin and will install from either side.
If you do the set screws as a back up to the pin, normally/ideally you would want to create a dimple or flat spot where the cup tip digs in to the barrel.
Aero Precision(fairly sure they are connected to BA) says 40 inch lbs with no thread locker(which seems a bad idea).
As mentioned, the set screws are not necessary. If used, enough torque to dig the cup tip in to the barrel and not vibrate loose is what you are looking for. OCD thing, but I stake the set screws and gas block which prevents backing out and it cannot melt when heated like red thread locker.
That’s how they come, because they know you’ll be running a barrel nut up the barrel to install.
Yes, roll pin goes in either way.
I then puy the screws in (barrel should have one dimple), no torque wrench, just tight as hell, WITH red loctite, and then stakr around the screw heads w/ center punch, just like I do the ones with no pin.
Mark is absolutely right about the overkill. It’s whay I do though.
Surprised Aero recommends no thread locker, maybe for folks who like to constantly rebuild stuff.
