ATF Director Resigns

At least according to this channel. I didn’t find confirmation other places, but shows a letter from the director supposedly:

Resign or be fired. Take your pick.

He only had 3 weeks left anyway. He probably has that much leave in the bank. He definitely won’t be missed.

Have we heard who Trump will nominate to replace him yet?

Blake Masters was rumored to be his nominee but I haven’t heard much more.

It really needs to be Herrera.

I’m conflicted on this. I’m inclined to feel that anyone associated with the ATF is scum, but, under this dude the wait times for silencers finally became less objectionable, causing silencer sales to skyrocket in 2024.

I’m sure he’ll be replaced with more scum.

Why would wait times necessarily be increased under a new director? Either there was an improvement in the system (albeit under a Democrat administration, shocker there) to speed things up or the Left wants as many names as possible—as quickly as possible—for their “master list”. I’m gonna go with an improvement in the system and a new RKBA-friendly Director would only enhance the process.

I’m not saying they will. Just making the point that they drastically decreased under this guy. That’s a fact…I don’t know what the motivation was. I can’t remember them ever going down on average before.

IIRC, there was legislation and funding passed to modernize and fully staff that department. Probably added as a rider to “must pass” legislation, otherwise the Dems would’ve killed it.

I wouldn’t hold my breath on RKBA friendly. The ATF isn’t that, by definition. As far as a Trump appointee helping is out with NFA stuff, maybe. But this isn’t the first time Trump’s been president, and his record toward anything NFA isn’t favorable. He has said he doesn’t like silencers and would look into banning them. And “his” ATF went after silencer parts manufacturers super hard, which is why most don’t exist anymore. Plus the whole bumpstock machinegun debacle.

I’d believe that.

Not gonna gloss over the suppressor parts or bump stock issue, but wasn’t it Trump that expanded the NFA branch? Seems as I recall he set that in motion. Took a while to bear fruit I would imagine.

I reserve the right to be completely wrong on this, just something I “think I remember”.

If the lag between change and effect is 5-8 years, that could be so. Same for going after parts manufacturers. Both happened during the last full year of respective terms.

Yeah a miracle like Brandon Herrera could happen but like you said I won’t hold my breath. Although he got my vote for the third time, Trump ain’t exactly a “RKBA” advocate. Kinda/sorta, but not really…

I’d argue that he’s the opposite of a RKBA advocate. The only 2a actions under his leadership I can think of are negative.

I was trying to be facetious yet nice to Trump!

I am with you both. I don’t believe that Trump is a true believer in 2A/RKBA.

I did find this though. Trump pushed for additional NFA branch staff to relieve backlog/wait times.

So as an aside, is the process speeded up for all NFA transactions or just suppressors? Like are SBR’s and full-autos going through as quick? I mostly hear guys talking about cans, was just wondering about the other stuff.

In my experience it has been a mixed bag. I had two SBRs approved pretty quick and one on the same application denied for “lack of action” (?). Gonna resubmit on that. I’ve also been waiting on one can for over a year.

SBR Form 1s have been moving faster, also.
