Arsenal's AK-104 clone: SLR-107CR

I picked one of these up from AIM and it’s slick. I took it to the range to sight it in and found that it would group 1" at 50 yards pretty easily with Barnaul ammo.

This may go the SBR/NFA route but for now I thought it was a good pre-2008 elections $850 investment.

Fit and finish is typical Arsenal - solid. Nice feel and balance. I put a Tapco SAW grip on after the range, and gave it a good coating of Militec.

OMG that’s what I want!

Very cool. I’ve been thinking the same thing - the look has grown on me. I’m sure you’ve seen the SBR 107CRs on akforum. They turn out nice. Enjoy your new Arsenal!

I’ve been drolling over the pictures on akforum and trying to figure out what to sell in order to buy a 107CR NOW!

I want an SLR-106FR, an SLR-106CR, an SLR-106UR, SLR-107CR and as SLR-107UR. The CR’s and the UR’s will make great SBR’s.

I’m resisting buying one of those as I just can’t bring myself to shell out $850 for an AK. Well, that and I’d rather not have that suppressor mount collar and I do want a threaded barrel.

I’m trying to scrounge up a Vector AK as it’s more in the $500 range, but the Arsenal like yours is calling my name.

Yeah, muzzle threads would be nice as the muzzle flash seems bigger than conventional gas block AKMs.

I wish Arsenal would make a clone of the AK-105 in 5.45. I need to check with KVar if you could put a Bulg AK-105 16" barrel assy on a Romanian SAR-2.

Are the barrels and receivers on the SLR-107’s US or Bulgarian made? Are the barrels chrome lined?

They are Bulgarian made and yes they are chromed lined.

And cold hammer forged as well.

Nice score Boss Hogg!

Ah yessir, I forgot about that!

Thanks! Now I just need to stock up on 7.62x39 blastin’ ammo.

It’s worth noting that it’s still not as accurate as my post-ban Old Skool Maadi, purchased in '91. The action on that thing is REALLY smooth and solid.

Me too, that would be great!

I have a Saiga reworked by Chris Butler of AK USA that looks very much like that. It was A LOT MORE expensive though but probably not as nice (yours is a factory job but Chris’s work is great so that sort of makes up for it). Anyone looking to do a AK104/102 or 5.56/7.62 Krink needs to get in on Arsenal’s CR and UR models - excellent base guns for the project, especially since they come with the folding stocks ready to go. A little barrel work (and opening of the gas port/gas block on the 107UR) and you’ll have a great gun.

Spooky

Thanks for the tip on AK USA.

Does anyone have muzzle velocity data on 5.45, 5.56, and 7.62 Krinks?

I’m having a 5.45 Krinkov made by MATR/BHI, but I’m wondering how much muzzle velocity is lost on 5.56 and 7.62 with an 8" barrel. I’ve heard about too many problems on the 5.56 AKs that I’ll probably stick with 5.45 and 7.62x39.

Okay, I’m getting a SLR-107CR and I’m going to SBR it!

I just have to find one

I haven’t heard anything negative about 5.56 AK’s. Do you mean any or all 5.56 AK’s or just the Arsenal 106’s? I’m really thinking of plopping down money for an AR project on one of the SLR-106’s…

Mine was ordered today!

There’s been a few problems with the 106s. Some left the factory not properly sighted in (No biggie). Some owners have had feeding problems (which Arsenal will fix and ship back).

I haven’t heard alot of these cases though, they seem to be pretty small.

Bar none, the SLR-107CR I examined over a month ago up at J&G Sales was the nicest stamped AK I’d ever seen in terms of fit, finish and smoothness of the action.

I was real impressed by it.
