AR 15 Exploded view. Is there one?

With all of the knowledge on this forum about the AR 15. I am looking for the best book or DVD that can be had that gives an exploded view of these great rifles. I want to be able to completely take mine down (if I ever had to) and put it back together.

I have done a search, but I didn’t find what I was looking for. I’m guessing this information isn’t readily available unless you were to buy a book or DVD? If this information is available online, I haven’t found it yet? I’ve spent the better part of the day looking. I did find bits and pieces, but nothing exact from beginning to end.

Just like the vehicles I work on, I have a factory shop manual for each one. I like to have one for all of the different guns I own as well. I know there isn’t but so many parts within the AR, but I want to know where they go, and what exactly it is they do.

Any help, I’d greatly appreciate it. And if I missed something obvious on the search part of this, sorry to put everyone through this.

wasn’t hard to find at all

I don’t know if this would also be useful, but here is a link to an animated view of a rifles’ operation. There are buttons at the bottom to select different views. The glass button demonstrates the operation. You can zoom in for a larger view.

I’d say just tear into it! That’s the best way to learn, it’s actually quite simple after you do it once or twice. The above graph is pretty much as simple as it gets. A lot of guys will recommend the USMC M16A2 manual, I think that’s what it is.

Brownells has excellent schematics of the AR 15 and all of the parts are labled as well.

Better than that…
They have videos of a cut away.

Instructional Videos at the bottom of the page.
How The AR-15 Operates It’s Parts, and Specifications and select the 6th video to start with the receiver.
Plan to sit around for a couple of hours watching all of the videos.

That is VERY cool.
Thanks for the link.

I have several other handguns and rifles, I keep information on. I have found through the years that I work on so many different things that information provided like you all have provided is priceless. I also found I might not have to take something apart for a long time, but when I do it’s nice to have a refrence.

But I swear I looked for an exploded view until I had AR 15 cross-eyes searching for this info. Finally I just figured you-all who are in the know would be the one’s to head me in the right direction. And for that, I appreciate your help and guidance greatly.

See, yesterday I took my AR out and sighted it in and used Wolf .223 ammo. Then I ran about another hundred rounds through it making sure I was on at 100 yards, and just having some fun. Reading that Wolf ammo can be nasty, I wanted to make sure I removed the firing pin from the Bolt Carrier and clean the rest of the rifle up like it was when I got it. Not being familiar with the AR as much as my other guns, I knew I needed help.

And you-all provided it. Thanks so much.
