I was looking at BCM’s site this morning and noticed that all the 16" mid length uppers come with an installed MOD 0 compensator. I confirmed this with BCM via email, and that they would not sell me one with an A2 instead. Is this a recent development? Both my BCM BFH 16" mid ltwt uppers, bought in 2013, have A2 flash hiders and I was hoping to add an identical third one. Are A2 flash hiders passe? I’m concerned about the additional noise of a comp compared to the A2, as I use these as home defense uppers. I’ve read a couple of reviews indicating that the MOD 0 is louder than an A2, but haven’t read any that say that the MOD 0 is not louder than the A2. Thoughts?
I too have noticed this. Am not a huge fan of it since I am not a comp fan, and would prefer the option of the A2. I would imagine that it is one of two possible reasons, either to push their gear(Which I understand their desire to do so on a number of levels, we have seen the same from DD as well), or streamline production(though they do offer to install drop in rails on most of their bare uppers so I don’t know). Or both. I do wish they would offer the option like on their 14.5 uppers for different MDs though since I do generally prefer the A2 but if they offered something like a Surefire FH or something I might be tempted to splurge for factory installed one, at least under I decide to invest in a suppressor at which point I will be swapping MDs anyway. That said, with the evolution of their website and the offers they have run with free BCGs for example, we may(I hope) see the option of different MDs installed on the 16 inch uppers.
So just sell the bcm comp and buy an a2 = profit.
With the A2 only selling for eight bucks what’s the big deal? Just change it out. Sell the Mod0 in the EE. As to the noise difference… Muzzle devices don’t make any noise but they do redirect it. In an open field my Mode0 doesn’t sound any louder than an A2 to me. Inside your house it ain’t gonna matter what you are running.
I’ll take it for the team and straight trade my A2 take-offs for those unwanted BCM Mod0 comps.
Haven’t noticed much perceived (unmeasured) audible difference between the Mod0 and A2.
They’ve been doing this for the past 8 months starting with the free BCG deal then they just kept this part going…
Like others have said, take it off and sell it. Probably the easiest thing to change out on an ar other than handguards and stock.
i prefer the A2 myself as it seems quieter to my ear. not really a big deal but would rather have the option and maybe 30 bucks lower price.
From the shooters perspective, I can’t notice a bit of difference between an A2 and the BCM unit.
From anywhere but directly behind the gun, the BCM is significantly louder.
I could care less about them knocking any money off, they are offering it “Free” after all. I just want the option since I don’t have the proper tools(I don’t buy into the grab nearest wrench and start torquing away method of some seeing parts ending up jacked up from others trying the ghetto method) at hand to swap the MD of my rifle and am sure there are others in the same boat.
