Any reason to ditch the colt?

I bought an upper off a guy on m4c that has a 14.5 inch colt barrel and vltor upper. So before I commit to getting a vortex perm attached to the colt barrel should I ship it out to g&r to have a n4 barrel put on or stick with the colt? Rifle will be outfitted with a 3x acog and be shot within 300 yards. Is the colt barrel even close to the n4 in terms as durability? Is accuracy going to be close to the n4 barrel? Looking for some opinions…

Keep and enjoy.

I don’t think that most owners will run their carbine hard enough to burn out a Colt barrel quickly. The N4 has thicker chrome and higher grade steel, but unless I was planning on putting tens of thousands of rounds through it every year or two, I think that you will be fine with the Colt.

I can’t begin to tell you how many rounds I put through my M4 Carbine in the Army without wearing the barrel out.

I can’t tell you the Colt is more durable than the N4, but the question you need to ask is: “Am I going to run it hard enough to benefit from changing it out?”

Colt is good enough for me.

Good post and i agree. Also want to add the way ammo prices are now… if you can spend that much money on ammo to wear out the Colt… Buying a new Barrel/Bolt, wont break the bank.

Yeah I’ll just keep it. I’m not benching this thing, just gonna run a lot of shitty ammo through it anyway so the accuracy issue doesn’t even seem relevant. Thanks for the replys…

greene,

You should run good quality ammo through your carbine as there might be reliability issues. With quality ammo, you will know if you are satisfied with the accuracy of the Colt barrel and decide whether you want keep it or change it.
