I have 4 factory Colts and I’d like a free float, but not interested in messing up the good work COLT does installing their own parts.
I’ve looked around and all I see are those useless non-FF aluminum drop-ins.
I’ve got my dremel and torque screwdriver ready when someone steps up to the plate.
If you are willing to accept the weight penalty of a two piece drop in rail and keep the heavy FSB you may as well forget keymod and mloc. Their claim to fame is weight savings by eliminating attachment points you don’t use. You may want to look at the Troy drop in rails.

Thanks gents…but…DD, Troy and MI no maky…has to be free-float…otherwise, it’s worthless.
I want one for it’s durability, lightweight (lighter than quad rail) and it needs to be svelte (thin, BCM keymod thin) for ergonomics and a consistent hand hold from prone to standing.
Pica tinny doesn’t make the cut for those requirements…a C4 drop-in in BCM keymod / CMR profile is what I’m after.
The only one I can think of is the fortis rev rails
Samson evolution will be close, but check the weight on them.

Sounds like you want a rail that requires you to take the FSB off and use a proprietary barrel nut.
No, that is the opposite of what I want…
I know the well known makers don’t offer one, but what about the 50+ other rail makers…anything seen in the wild.
Nice lead on the Fortis, but alas, it is one piece. Checked out the Samson EVO and it’s one piece…product description says no FSB removal necessary…but looking at the installation, Samson either doesn’t know how their own product installs or it’s a typo…it does require FSB removal…no thanks, Samson.
I think B5 makes a drop in keymod, but I have no experience with them. I don’t know if they are free float either…
Yeah, it’s a two-piece polymer hand guard.
Not sure how anyone can make a FF without having to replace the barrel nut. That rail has to attach somewhere. If it were me, I’d make a choice, and it sounds like you have colts to work with. I’d put a two piece on one rifle, and take the FSB of one rifle, put a low profile GB on it and a FF rail. Test the heck out of both and see what’s best. I don’t think you’ll gain enough from FF to warrant it though. Just my honest opinion. I think you’re looking for a unicorn

The Fortis Rev 2 is the only rail I can think of that fits what you’re looking for. It comes in M-lok or Keymod flavors and attaches to the standard barrel nut. It’s pretty slim and light also, and I think it comes in a 7 inch version that would fit behind the FSB on your Colt.

There’s the CASV-KM, though I haven’t seen one in person. If it’s like its non-KM models, then it’s not very thin. It would be two-part and study as it gets though.

Lots of rails available that attach directly to the factory barrel nut…one piece, two piece…but they’re all picatinny…for two piece that is.
Tx Aggie, the Fortis Rev 2 looks to be a one-piece, with just a separate bottom attachment clamp at the point of the barrel nut.
The CAS-VM looks like a football to hold…make it slim VLTOR, c’mon.

You are correct. I must’ve missed the OP’s need for a two piece rail. He would have to remove the FSB, install the Fortis rail, and then re-install the FSB. Not difficult but maybe more work than he was hoping for.
Another option (although not Keymod or M-lok) is the Midwest Industries SS 2-piece free float rail. It uses the same attachment method as their other 2 piece free float rails, but has their older SS attchment system instead of picatinny rails. So again, it doesn’t check all of the boxes, but does get most of them. I asked MI a while back if they had plans to make this rail in Keymod and they said possibly, but that there were a lot of projects ahead of something like that and they weren’t sure there was enough demand to warrant it.
Both the 7" Fortis and the carbine length MI rails can be found for under $170 online.

Just remove the gas blocks and install the guard you really want.
If your not comfortable doing it. Send it to someone who is.
The rail you search for doesn’t exist yet. In the meantime why not buy a Viking Tactics Delta rail ?

UPDATE: Talked with Midwest Industries to see if they were going to offer such a rail and was told “not at this time, possibly in the future”.
However, the rep I talked to did say that he understood Centurion was redesigning their drop-in C4 rails and that’s been spread in this thread as well:
