I pulled the trigger on an Eotech 553 black a few days ago to mount on my custom built AR-15. Like a should have done prior, I started looking around afterward and saw the Eotech EXPS3. It seems like the same sight but shorter and with less depth for the waterproofing. It also has the buttons on the side. Apprently it’s only an ounce lighter and a little over an inch shorter. Right now I don’t plan to mount a magnifier or NV, but that may change in the future. Am I going to be hindered in mounting accessories with the 553?
What do you guys think? Should I keep the 553 or send it back as soon as I get it for the EXPS3?
It will take up more rail space than the EXPS3. The buttons are on the rear but I don’t think you’ll be left with enough rail space for a magnifier anyway.
OK. After a lot of reading reviews and research, I went ahead and ordered an EXPS3-0 from Primary Arms. They had it in stock and it comes with a free 3X magnifier and QD mount. Now I have the sight and magnifier issue solved. I’ll just return the 553 to Midway for a refund.
