Excellent granular look at the alcohol data per Vinay Prasad, MD MPH. Bottom line is, the data is garbage. Many of us (most?) enjoy a drink occasionally and may want to know the hard facts of the risk/benefits of alcohol ingestion, this examination is best I have seen on that topic. There’s also an argument to be made for red wine (good red wine vs Mad Dog 20/20 as he mentions…) people should be aware of posted below vid.
Only area I don’t fully agree with is his comments on mechanistic studies being essentially useless to make decisions about alcohol and ways to counter its negative effects.
This is a hella good decision, man. That shit was going to kill you, which seems to be fairly common in the vet community.
I’ve been contemplating lately the role booze played in the….mood, in 2020-2021 or so. When people drink nightly, it impacts mood and psychology even when they’re sober due to the effects booze has on sleep quality. It can add up pretty fast, and maybe not talked about enough. So, throw a bunch of booze at a population that’s umderemployed, stuck at home, and/or afraid/anxious, and pound them with divisive information warfare…….well, we saw the effects of that.
