Ak74 or AUG a3 or V93

Whats up guys

Looking to purchase a new rifle soon. I already have an sgl31 and bcm AR. I am looking at purchasing a 2nd ak74, a steyr aug a3, or a v93. I have a ton of mags for both ak74 and aug rifles, but nothing for a v93 as of now. What would you recommend? Money is not an issue. I’m in a urban environment.

Regards

Kinda hard to answer that question without knowing what you’re planning on doing with the rifle, your background/training level etc. If you’re just starting a gun collection to have cool shit to fondle and show off at BBQs then it doesn’t really matter, get what ever floats your boat. I’ve done some of that myself and there’s nothing wrong with it if that’s how you choose to spend your money.

If you’re looking at your firearms primarily as defensive tools then you might want to adopt a different strategy. If I were in your shoes I’d want another complete backup AR for the BCM and some basic spares parts. If you don’t already have a quality optic/light/sling for the AR and plenty of mags that should be top priority. Same goes for training and enough ammo to continue to develop your skills. Hell I’d rather have a quality AR or two and a nice progressive reloading setup than three or four random assault rifles that all take different parts/mags/ammo.

There are also a lot of costs associated with getting a rifle setup properly for defensive use such as the a fore mentioned optic/light/sling and mounts for all of them. A good safe is also worth the investment in order to protect your valuable firearms. A homeowners policy isn’t much good if yous shit gets stolen and you don’t have it when you need it. Anyway just my two cents.

Great ideas. I am looking more for defensive purposes. I’ll focus in more. A little of that BBQ is horrible of course…hahah I am going to rely more on the AK Platform then AR so i’ll probably scoop up a backup AK74

Great stuff man

Maybe take a peek at the Robinson Arms XCR-L if you are just looking for something different but quality.

other than that I’m all about doubling up guns of a primary weapon system

Which platform are you currently trained on?

I read your intent as wanting “a little something different” to play with… you say you’ve got a BCM, and that it’s second in your lineup to an SGL-31.

Neither of those rifles should quit on you any time soon.

If it were me, and I own a bit of everything (but NO bullpup), I’d go for the V93. I have a C93 that’s never malfunctioned on close to 1000 so far and it’s really accurate… I love it.

I think you keyed on it…haha Thanks for the input on the v93

I’m gonna disagree with Kev.

I’d avoid the V93 and the C93 at all costs. Despite his experiences they are generally problematic at best. Also magazines are kinda expensive and the most available ones are 40 rounders which really magnify the flaws of 93 clones.

You already have a SGL31 so you have in my opinion one of the best 74s made so really no reason to buy another unless you plan on building a AK collection.

The AUG A3 rifle would be an excellent choice if you wanted one.

For a new .223 carbine might want to look into a SCAR for almost the same money.

If you are really into the HK platform, find a preban 93.

I dropped my sgl31 muzzlebreak first running some dry fire transitions so I’m hurting right now haha.

On cement tile may I add

I think that’s we’re this mostly stems from

Well see if she’s ok next range trip.

Sounds like you have AUG mags but no AUG yet? If you are just looking for something different and already have a stash of mags, I think the bullpup is the way to go. I’m always tempted to buy an AUG to add to the safe (too much Die Hard and Miami Vice in my youth) as I think it is an innovative design with some interesting history.

But my interest in the AUG is solely for its novelty and nostalgia value - I can’t imagine reaching past my ARs to grab the AUG for any kind of serious use.

Used to carry an AUG-P for “serious work”. I wish we still had them. All ours needed was the newer rails so we could change optics. It took me forever to adapt to the M4 after they cut all of our AUGs up.

I can give a second for the XCR although there are quite a few who will disagree. I love mine. How about a Vector Kriss for “something different” ? You can’t go wrong with another AK either.

Other than collecting purposes…I’d resist the temptation to have a bunch of different weapon platforms. The AUG is a fine system and Ive had mine since the 1980s, definitely my go to .223. I am mainly a 7.62x51 type of guy but I do appreciate the AK74 platform. I would vote against the V93…

You have original factory versions of the 74 (if you have an Arsenal) and also the AUG if you buy a Steyr product. The V93 is a clone of a rifle that was not HK’s best…I’ve had several original German HK93’s and a 43, none of them functioned anywhere near as reliably as my AUG, AR, etc, unlike the G3 design. I also think the original 93/33 was too heavy for a 5.56 carbine and you do have expensive, harder to find magazines. Now that is the original version and you are now looking at clone of questionable quality?? Why would you do that to yourself?

More great points. I’m tossing the v93. I’ll see where I am at financially if/when the AUG is produced. Otherwise I’ll look for another quality AK74 Thanks guys

FYI, 20 previously-unsold Sabre AUG/A3s are coming onto the market via PJS soon, and pre-orders are being taken in the next few weeks for new AUG/A3s (allegedly to ship by August) according to a post on another forum.

The stated price was $1799.

AUG A3
It is one of the most accurate bullpups and has a way better trigger than the FS2K. I have shot mine quite a bit over the last couple years and the more I shoot it the more I really like it. It has been reliable with Russian steel case and brass from IMI, Winchester, Lake City and even though it is 1/9 it shoots all 75 grain loads from Hornady, ASYM, Hunting Shack, and 69 grain Privi with good accuracy.

The V-93 I have shot and like stated mags are rediculous and it is a clunky rifle to operate. The AK74 you already have covered, I have one of the SGL31’s too. Go for the AUG it will also be a future collector’s item.

If we are talking about just adding another cool rifle to the collection, I vote for a Steyr AUG. Either buy an original A1 or an A3. The AUG is a great platform. The A3 allows user selection of optics and has a bolt release. The A1 has Die Hard nostalgia.

It is just one of those platforms that brings me back to adolescence, watching Die Hard and thinking that I would most definitely one day own “one of those”.

Damn they cut them up? That is a crime!
Pat

I vote for the AUG.

My vote is on the AUG as well and I’d certainly like to know where they are taking orders on new AUG A3’s

Update** The folks over at Ratworx have started a list for when the new AUGs are available. No deposit required.
