AK-74 style brake manufacturers

I want to ditch the slant brake on my M70 (7.62x39) and get a AK-74 style. There seem to be several manufacturers to choose from. Which manufacturers make the best ones?

I assume that your barrel has 14x1 LH threads if you have a slant break on it currently.

Traditional AK-74 style breaks are 24x1.5mm, much larger.

You would have to get an adaptor…

or get a smaller '74 style break that has the 14x1 LH threads.

As for “best one” you cannot go wrong with anything from K-VAR/Arsenal provided your rifle has the correct thread pitch.

Yes you are correct it does have LH threads. I just measured them with a clear ruler, it appears that the threads are spaced exactly 1mm apart, and the diameter is close to 14mm by my crude measurements, so I guess I will be looking for a 14x1 LH solution. I didn’t even know there were two sizes, thanks. The rifle also has the detent at 12 o’clock

I will be checking the interwebs, it appears that both spacers are out of stock, so I may be looking for something that fits directly.

Glad I could be of some help, keep us updated on what works for you. The detent at your muzzle’s 12 is correct as all AK muzzle devices fit the same way no matter what the thread pitch is. If you can’t find what you want e-mail the companies in question, most of them well notify you when a part is back in stock.

I ended up getting an AK-74 style brake in 1x14 made by FA enterprises, through Brownells. The idea of having an adapter (and paying for it) put me off. It fits fairly well, but I will have to mess with it due to my OCD. The 12 o’clock cut out isn’t quite big enough to let the detent spring out into the groove very much. It is secure, but doesn’t seem right. A few minutes with the dremel o’ death will take care of that.

I also picked up a few more things, a new recoil spring made by wolff because the old one was feeling quite whimpy, and a case of M67. I also bought an extra power spring from wolff which I may try out, but I want to shoot the normal one first. The normal wolff spring seems about 10% stronger than the old one, it was 1.5’’ longer and slightly larger in diameter too. I might post a range report after I shoot it sometime, hopefully soon.
