I’ve read many threads/reviews, etc., on each variant. I can see advantages of both. For example, the use of AA batteries with the CompM4’s versus the small size and light weight of the T1/H1/R1.
Those of you that have experience with BOTH, would you give us some thoughts as to which you NOW prefer, and why?
This comes about as I consider which one I want to concentrate on exclusively. I have a T1, but the prepper in me wants that capability of using a common AA battery.
I have limited use with both, but prefer the micros greatly. If the batteries needed to be replaced more often than they do, maybe I’d consider the AA models, but since they last so long it doesn’t really come into play for me. So, the weight and size difference is really all I see.
After using 30mm Aimpoints since 1996, I switched to the T1’s 4 years ago and have never looked. Small, lightweight, same sight picture. As stated before, with a 5 year battery life, CR2032 availability is not an issue.
If a battery lasts 5 years & you have a 2nd battery, will a crisis situation last more than 10 years? If it does, we will all have a lot more serious problems than battery availability.
I have a few Comp M4’s and a 4moa T1. I would have preferred to have a 2 moa T1 but got a deal on the 4moa.
I like both sights but have the T1 on my go to rifle. On longer distance shots I prefer the Comp M4 probably due to the smaller dot. I have heard that the dots on the micros are actually set than advertised. Like the 4 moa is closer to 3.5 moa. Not 100% on that though.
The T1 batteries are so ubiquitous now that they would not be that much harder to find in the chaos. Just set aside some extra ammo to trade for one. Or better stash a dozen batteries as wampum. After all keeping your buddies red dots active serves your own prepper self interest
I traded my Comp just because the bulk. T1, RMR and And a couple TR24’s are my keepers for now.
I have the T-1 and a M4s, love both and would have to flip a coin to decide. Both have great features. I like the size and weight of the T-1 but love the size of glass on M4s. Both are like tanks I think and I shoot the same with both. I generally keep my T-1 on my lightweight contour barrel and keep my M4s on one of my standard profile barrels…I will say that my lightweight contour barrel with the T-1 feels like a toy…
I stick with the micros effectiveness and weight savings. I have one R-1 that I got when they were on sale at midwayusa. I painted it and have ran it on one carbine, then transferred it to the shotty after getting two 2 moa dot H-1s a year or so later. The R-1 is the best deal going, if you can find one at a good price.
T1. Mine has been on constantly for 3 years without a battery change. I really need to change it, but there’s a part of me that wants to just see how long it will go.
The other models aren’t bad, but we’re usually talking a matter of $100 or so in price difference, which at the end of the day, just isn’t that much money compared to the overall carbine. Smaller, lighter, battery life, rugged as hell (proven by DD torture test). NO reason to run anything besides a T1 in the RDS realm.
I have run both the T-1 and the M4s on my duty gun. I started with the M4s because I wanted it to use easy to get AA’s and I had seen video of Aimpoint reps absoloutely abusing the crap out of their M4 optics. As time went on, I started to wish my duty gun weighed just a bit less and then I saw the DD torture test and how much the T-1 on that gun withstood. That made my decision, I sold off my M4s and picked up a T-1 in a Larue LT660 mount and never looked back.
Both are great optics, but for me there really is no reason to use anything but an Aimpoint micro from here on out.
The Aimpoint Micro of any T, H, R breed is probably the best RDS out there. All the benefit of an Aimpoint with reduced weight and size? What’s not to like? That being said, you have to plan RDS purchases with everything else in mind. Money, capability, and perks immediately come to mind.
If you want to keep the cost low but have the capability of an Aimpoint’s dot & reputation, but don’t care about the lightweight or small profile… buy a PRO. It’s the lowest cost solution and you can get a PRO for 1/2 the cost of a Micro, and it comes with a mount.
Both are great options and having shot half a dozen different Aimpoints for a while now, I don’t really see the utility for the rest of their product line.
I agree the PRO is a great value, but it’s not 1/2 the cost of a Micro. Larue sells their combo T-1 with the mount ($100 value) for $650 and the PRO with the mount is available for around $400.
Okay, so the PRO costs 60% of what a Micro costs when you buy it from LaRue which might be the best deal on a Micro anywhere currently. My point was it’s alot less money for the same basic capability of an Aimpoint RDS (without the perks of lighter/smaller/cooler).
I noticed Grant still has some R1’s in stock for a little over $400. Maybe someone with way more influence than I have could convince him to sell those for around $299?
