Aimpoint Magnifier + Unity Mount

As the eyes continue to age… I currently have an Aimpoint micro in a Unity Fast mount and like everything about it, but now and then a bit of magnification would be welcome.

Questions:

$400? Price seems awfully low. What am I not getting?

My Unity mount has a rear sight aperture built in which I use with my regular front sight. With the magnifier in the down position, is it low enough to be able to use the aperture? In other words, will it interfere with the below?

My guess would be that the tall unity mount is not what many guys would pair with a magnifier due to the height? More of a short range heads up fighting mount. Thus, not a high demand mount?

I don’t think there’s a downside risk to that purchase though.

This pic answered my question = Will interfere

Ah! Now I see the problem. Looks like it’s so low it’s absolute cowitness.

Yes, the rear aperture and front post incorporated in the Unity mount (I removed the post) are Absolute.

Off topic but related: As I’ve aged, my eyes have suffered getting the front sight post in sharp focus. However, if I look through a standard rear sight aperture and an also the Unity aperture, the front sight post becomes sharp. No idea why… but I very much like the result.

Carbine sights are the same diminished crispness for me too. Rifle, however, gives me the good clear sight post.

I get the same effect when my aging eyes are in bright sunlight. My pupils contract and I can read the fine details on my watch face.
