Affordable Surplus Surefires

Well I received my light yesterday.

All I have to say is that those that paid 149.00 for the excellent ones, wasted 20$. I bought the cheaper one, and it looks brand new, and the batteries even work. It works great, may need to order another one and put it on the 5.49x39 I’ll be ordering next week. Then again it’s got a quick release so may be content with one and more batteries.

Thanks for the heads up ColtLE…

Hell yeah got my own page

No problem. What kind of 5.45 rifle are you getting?

M&P15R upper to go on a spikes lower I built up.

Don’t have the upper yet, gonna be next pay check, but 2160 rounds be here tomorrow from AIM, along with 6 c-prod mags from palmetto too.

They’re gonna start shooting 3-gun around my area on a regular basis soon, so this will give me a shot to play without breaking the bank.

got my good condition today.
looks great and works with fresh batteries, tho shipping could be better.

That sounds really cool. I’m looking forward to reading about it.

This is why I love this site:

Thanks , you just saved me some money. It’s not the first time either.

I don’t know anything about flashlights, but I am curious. The retial of the M952 looks to be about $450. The G2L much cheapter from what I am seeing. What is it about the M952 that makes it so expensive?

None of these features are necessarily ‘better’ for most people’s intended use, but the 952 has some characteristics and features the G2L lacks:

-Shock-isolated bezel. Useless for running an LED, but a must for using an incan. There are still guys out there that prefer incandescent light for its ability to punch through smoke and bad weather. Incans are also a must for using infrared filters.

-Type III hard anodized finish. The only part of the G2L that isn’t plastic is type II anodized (the bezel).

-Integrated throwlevers. Whether or not you like the stock levers on SF’s weaponlights, they add cost.

-More complicated machining on the 952. Also keep in mind that the G2L body and tailcap are plastic (cheaper to produce). The machining is probably the biggest issue regarding cost.

As to what Grant says about the G2L versus a 952; a Surefire rep posting on Candlepowerforums openly admitted that the M-series weaponlights are dinosaurs that have been made obselete, in every conceivable way, by the newer LED products. Now you can buy an X300 or M600c Scout light that has more throw, output, runtime, impact resistance, is much lighter, and cheaper than any of the Millenium weaponlights.

He claimed they haven’t phased out the M-series lights because they’re still highly regarded and desired by .mil, who are slow and deliberate when embracing change and new products. Incans are also preferred due to the ability to use infrared filters, though that point is becoming moot with the new V-series weaponlights.

Just something to think about.

Well I have to say you are definitely right about the led’s ability to penetrate. Although I would definitely prefer more lumens in my light, I sure appreciate it’s ability to penetrate smoke. I’m a Fire Fighter if you haven’t gathered from my screen name, and I have a streamlight survivor LED for work. If I had the money to do it all over again, I would definitely get an incandescent light. It would definitely outway the battery life issues. Even though, you can’t see much in a house fire, besides the glow of the light, the incandescent let’s you see just a bit further. That is very comforting. I will probably update my sure fire with a new bulb. Supposedly I can increase the lumens via aftermarket. For now I just won’t shoot passed the beam.
