Been reading the board for a while now collecting data on my first ar15 purchase. Thank you to everybody's post, so much good knowledge on here. My budget with rifle and iron sights is 1,000-1,500. What I am looking for:
The most accurate rifle in this price range, if you have stories or photos please post your gun specs, distances, scope specs and ammo.
Ability to shoot out to 500-600 yds accurately. A 10’x10 square, consistently.
Also recommendations on a scope from zero-500yds.
I am not looking or needing all the bells and whistles. I want a gun were the money was spent on making it accurate and dependable. Basic models are fine for me in this stage.

You might start reading in the Precision Rifle- Semi Auto section. Any rifle capable of shooting 1 1/2" groups at 100 yards should theoretically be able to strike a 10x10 plate at 600 yards. The problem then becomes the shooter.
I can take an M16A4 or whatever variant or even a 16" carbine with an ACOG and do 500 yards all day with good ammo.
Having said that you will learn that if you truly want an accurate AR and there are plenty that fit the bill your greatest obstacle isn’t the price of the AR, but the optic. You will also want to use good ammo.
I had a Noveske 16.1" Recon upper, standard GI trigger with a Leupold Mark 4 MR/T with an illuminated reticle and using good ammo I was able to shoot around 1.25 MOA off the ground using a pack as a rest.
To build that AR it cost me around 1400.00 or so. But the scope was almost 1000.00.
Check out white oak armament. They do lots of highpower rifles that shoot at 600 all day long.

With the right optic and shooter dang near any AR worth it’s weight in salt can do 10x10 squares at 500. A great optic can run as much as the gun though, so if I wanted a designated long range toy like that I would save some coin to put a nice optic on top of the nice rifle.
Just echoing what everyone else was saying. Good glass and good ammo are a must. I’ve seen some of the “best” AR’s get crappy groupings cuz the people spent all their money on the gun and spent $100 on a scope.:nono:
It’s been said the only problem with Noveske stainless steel barrels is that their standard barrel is so accurate it makes their stainless barrel seem unnecessary.
My JP 18 inch rifle length gas system is silly stupid accurate, especially with 77/69gr 223 loadings. You can get an upper for $1100 and builp up your lower.
With the low mass recoil system and adjustable gas, you can dial the gun in and really ride it for long range shots and easily call your hits and misses on steel since the gun hardly moves.
Don’t overloop BCMs SS barrels. I have one that I really haven’t tied down to a bench to really figure out what it is capable of. With a Troy rail they can be pretty reasonable and maybe allow you to get an upgraded trigger for $1400.
