Advice/info needed: KAC SR-15

So I am debating between the LPR and Mod1 SR15.

16" barrel is a bit more ideal, but I understand the LPR has a much higher quality Kreiger barrel?

So, debating which to go with. Also, is this the only difference in the two?

Final question, I can’t find information on the colour differences. Can someone post pics of the diff colours available and their names? Thanks so much!

Are either of these rifles in stock where you’re planning to buy it?

yes, both.

$2150 for mod1, $2300 for lpr

They both are just black in finish. Be careful where your buying them because some places that aren’t gouging are, gouging with huge cc fees %5 when its illegal to pass on cc fees to a customer and a real cc fee is 2.5%. Anyway I say mod 1. I never want a 5.56 rifle longer than 16". If the lpr was 16" i would consider it. But then again precision is not really my bag. Either rifle will make you happy. I go lighter, cheaper, longer barrel life, IMHO.

I have the option of different colors, and am considering green or silver. Would like to know all of KACs offerings and what they look like though.

Who’s doing the dissasembly/assembly and what kind of finish? Cerakot/durakote/kg gunkote? If they’re KAC factory colors they’re not mod 1’s. They’re legacy sr15’s.

You’re right, they are both black and no colour options available. Colour options are listed, but not accurate, from what it seems.

So back to my original issue: LPR or Mod1? Is the only difference barrel size?

Lighter, cheaper, and more shootable while standing are all pluses, but that kreiger barrel seems appealing.

What are your intentions for this rifle. I have a Mod 0 SR15, and it suits my needs just fine. I was not looking for a DMR rifle when I made the purchase. I’d say figure out what you will be using it for, then decide.

All purpose. I like shooting in the field with a bipod, and just plinking / standing. Most shooting will be done <200 yards.

Also, critter control and possibly hunting next year.

+1

Come to terms with what you want out of this rifle and you’ll have your answer. They both fill a different role.

If your a bench type shooter get the lpr. The other barrel will have a longer life. ( most people never reach a barrels life anyway) but you have to look at it. Just look at all the kac threads on here and read. Know one is disappointed with the sr 15. It’s well balanced and kicks like a BB gun. Not to mention its no slouch in accuracy. Please pm me where these are in stock. I might cancel mine from gouge ops armory.

Yes, I believe the barrel is the only difference between the Mod1 and the LPR. I just ordered an LPR from Kevin at High Caliber Sales. I contacted Lawmens on here and he referred me to HCS and another KAC vendor as being highly reliable, and warned me about another dealer closer to me with a spotty record. (PM if you care for details)

I have a spikes/BCM middy with an eotech, so I decided to get the LPR rather than replay the same tune. Not that there’s anything wrong with having 2 mids. I’ll probably make the LPR into a DMR type rifle and get a leupold 1.5-5 or something similar, once I get the rifle mostly paid off.

I wasn’t totally aware the other colors were legacy guns, but they were green, silver/grey and taupe or tan. Here’s an image from another forum showing the lineup:

But just google “silver sr15” or “green sr15” etc. to see some images. I’m known to be partial to FDE, but my top two choices are black and silver. If you want your rifle a color other than black (or just want it cerakoted), you should be able to find a reputable place to cerakote it for about $250 incl. shipping.

there are also a few KAC threads on arf.com

As far as I can tell, noone in the country has these in stock, so you might have to place an order and side-track yourself for “60-90 days” (my est.).

I’ve also been considering a Mod 1, where did you find one in stock? Please let me know.

So, the Mod 1 went out of stock, but they still have one LPR. I think the best choice for me is a mod1, but realistically, the best choice is what I can find/get, right?

The lowers are identical too, so if I so choose, I could put a mod1 upper on the LPR and have it be identical, later in life?

Thanks!

That is correct.

How do other caliber uppers pair up to the KAC lower? Would love a more hunting appropriate upper eventually.

6.8, 6.5, and .300 Blk all work fine.
Anything that is made to drop onto a 5.56 lower is fair game.

Typos brought to you via Tapatalk and autocorrect.

Where are you guys finding these in stock, I am on a list at Rockwell Arms.
