Advice for FLETC?

Hey guys,

Starting BOP training March 31st and not sure yet when I will be going down to Glynco to the FLETC for their training.

Any advice, recommendations, or otherwise from the guys who have been there?

Thanks.

Stay away from the nearby Hampton Inn. At all costs.
:stuck_out_tongue:

Will keep it in mind. Thanks.

What’s this Taj Mahal I keep hearing about? Also I’ve heard the Red Carpet or whatever isn’t very classy lol. And to not pull your pants down w/ a girl in the Brunswick area lol.

I’ve also been told to bring a lock. Don’t piss off the local LEO’s or the on base LEO’s. To have patience w/ the firearms training as it may be a bit dumbed down for one who isn’t familiar w/ the weapons used or guns entirely.

Take motrin, drink water.
If volunteers are asked for keep your hand down.
Don’t eat the yellow snow.

haha nice.

Ya the volunteering thing…before I was told I couldn’t really do anything fun in the .mil b/c of a hearing loss, and would be hell to get in (this was pre 9-11 before they were waving everything and I couldn’t hide my hearing loss as I had shitloads of documentation on surgeries on my ears and stuff) I went through a few .mil programs and to the USN Academy Summer Seminar…got first hand experience w/ being careful of what you volunteer for.

If you go in summer time be prepared for hot ass weather. Overall you will train your ass off and get some good trigger time. Just don’t step on your dick. Just dont stand out for the wrong reasons.

Thanks.

I was supposed to start in house training Feb. 4th but they didn’t get my BI initiated in time…I was really pulling for that date as there was a better chance I could go to Glynco while it was still cold here in Illi-noys and the weather down there would feel great. Now I just have this feeling (and luck usually has it w/ me) that it’ll be 95 and humid here…which translates into meaning it’ll be worse down there.

Goldbond FTW

One word (name), Pams.

c’mon don’t leave a brotha hangin!?!?!?!

I’ll keep it in mind. If you don’t tell me and I ask about this when I get down there I’m not gonna get drop kicked in the nuts, am I? :stuck_out_tongue:

Worlds largest cop bar. Just off post.

Pitchers of Beer, Jalapeno Pizza and misery the next morning
It is a change of pace from the club on post.

Alot of tradition there ( or at least was ). Tradition taking on many forms and to hear them from the right story teller will make you feel like you did a couple hundred sit ups in 5 minutes.

Sweeeet. Thanks man, I’ll definitely check it out.

Good luck at FLETC.

How long is your training? I recall a ton of BOP classes going through when I went to the CITP in 2000.

Enjoy your Fridays and Saturdays at St. Simmons Island, eating at Pam’s, shopping at Sally’s, going to the “gay” bar, and smelling the paper mill on Saturday mornings.

Thanks!

IIRC it is 3-4 weeks. I’m really really really looking fwd to it.

Also upon completion I hope the warden signs off on allowing CCW. I’m from IL so as you know…me being an IL resident and allowing CCW is huge. But then again I may already be moved to IN by then. crosses fingers

Granted that’s not a reason at all for me getting into this career but it’s a huge plus down the road.

Also looking fwd to meeting ppl down there and hearing their stories/backgrounds/etc. Should be interesting.

Thanks again all.

BTW how are they w/ picture taking? If allowed I’ll definitely post pics once I get back. Only problem is I really don’t know when I’ll be going at this point. Just depends on how soon after the 2 week Institution Familiarization training is done and a class opens up down in Glynco.

Photos are fine. In fact they run photography classes there so there are alot of students running around taking pictures behind trees and the like. It is an interesting facility and over 60 US agencies send their people there for training in addition to State and locals. It is a self contained city in a way. An old Blimp base that was converted to a POW camp during WWII. When Dod decided to unload it, the Treasury Department steped in and took the base for LE training. The exceptions are those who must attend Quantitico (2).

I take it you have been to their web page?

http://www.fletc.gov/

Take a bike with you if you drive. Some folks buy one when they get there and sell it when they leave. Take a bike lock. I always took a gun when I drove, and checked it in while I was there. Be guided by any reporting instructions they sent you.

If you’ll be shooting at the out door ranges, you may want some Avon Skin-So-Soft for the sand gnats.

I haven’t been there in five years, but in my times there, they seemed like they were always building something.

Good luck!

John

not much to do since they have the 6 day schedule going on. stay away from the g-club, better going off into town. check out level 3, its a nightclub. get some bug juice or band or something. enjoy the food, too damn good. most people gain 5-10 pounds or so. sally’s cop shop isn’t all that. on your one day off, rent a car with some buddies and roll out to florida, or check out some other sites. best to pre-plan it. stock beer/liquor in the fridge. they dont sell it on sunday. have fun, and stay away from crazy bitches who might get you in trouble. its funny how all the different agency guys walk around with animosity towards each other. you would think its a prison with cliques and gangs. have fun.

you wont really be there long enough for the bike.
