I’m looking into getting an ACE folding stock for my SGL-31 (stamped, none folding) and I was curious if anyone knows if they have a version that does not require you to cut off the tangs (in case I want to go back to my solid stock) and have the stock fold to the left side of the gun instead of the right.
ACE makes one, but it’s a bit blocky. I also recommend purchasing from a reseller, as I’ve had less than stellar response and service from ACE direct.
Similar (and a few bucks cheaper) at CSS.
If you’re willing to spend a bit more, get the Krebs.
I bit the bullet and cut the tangs off mine, no regrets so far. If I want a change from the ACE/Galil style, there are pig-nose adapters that will let me bolt an AR buffer tube to the ACE hinge. That gives me a lot of options, I just can’t easily go back to a factory AK stock.
Awesome, thanks man. I’m a little confused on how these stocks work though. If I were to go this route, I would buy the stock and then a 3rd piece to connect them or would the stock connect directly to these pieces?
If you want it to fold, you’ll need to get the hinge. Block attaches to rifle, hinge to block, stock to hinge. You can set it up to fold to either side, just flip the hinge over.
Keep in mind that the block will add length to the whole assembly, as will the hinge. You have to take that into account when you pick the length of the stock. That’s one of the reasons I cut the tangs off and went with an internal block, both on my S-12 shotgun and milled rifle.
Wait - before you cut the tangs off look at CNC Warrior. They have a drop in hinge that requires 0 permanent mods. You can also get the same tube “Galil”/Beryl style metal stock for the hinge too. If that’s what you’re looking for; you can also place a collapsible M4 stock on the same hinge if you’d like.
They lock up very solid, fold right or left depending on how you buy it. There’s some comparison threads around if you look between the CNC Warrior and ACE. I’ve had both, and would take the CNC Warrior any day.
I just hope you read this, and at least take a look at them before you cut your tangs off
Thanks like I said in the first post, I do NOT want to cut off my tangs if I don’t have too.
No problem.
I found the comparison thread I mentioned, but I can’t insert the link; phone is giving me problems. If you want to see it Google “Bonesteel vs ACE folding”. It should take you to an AK centered forum that does not have “files” in the name.
Bonesteel and CNC Warrior are the same thing; CNC Warrior makes the stocks for Bonesteel. If you do buy, then do so through CNC Warrior instead of Bonesteel. From what I heard Bonesteel has been having some problems recently with filling orders. I’m not sure what the reason is, and the guy running it is great so I don’t want to spread misinformation. It could be an emergency or something.
I guess I should stress that my list is in no way intended to be anything close to comprehensive, just a few examples. CNC Warrior does have a great rep. In fact, if I were to do it today, I probably wouldn’t even use the ACE stock, there are a lot of options out there that bolt on the same and are compatible with the same pattern hinges and adapter blocks.
You might consider waiting for Magpul’s new folding, collapsing stock. I evaluated the Bonesteel/CNC Warrior option and found it sits considerable lower than the bore line of the rifle, more so than the factory stock. This will exaggerate muzzle rise. Otherwise it looked very well made.
Ace also makes a block that allows you to use their folding stocks without cutting off the stock tang.
I’m not one to take a cutting wheel to my Kalashnikov’s tangs either. I opted for a Polish Beryl folder for my SGL-21.
Thanks for your help guys. Anyone know what happened to the Manticore triangle stock? I just saw it and thought it was an answer, but no one has it instock. Do they not make them anymore?
