Does the AAC Brakeout ring like a tuning fork the way the Blackout does?
AAC Brakeout review 2:
Tonight I shot this AAC Brakeout again. This time with 230 rounds. I used 100 rounds of XM193, 75 rounds of American Eagle 223 (AE223) 55gr FMJ, and 55 rounds of PMC Bronze 55gr FMJ.
No malfunctions of of any kind. I shot it all with a LMT enhanced M16 bolt carrier, BCM H buffer and buffer spring, BCM bolt, BCM cam pin, and a BCM firing pin. This is a BCM 14.5” hammer forged midlength with a tuned (optimized) gas system with a AAC Brakeout.
This set up it is almost the lightest recoiling AR15 I’ve ever shot. It feels very similar to my BCM Tactical Optics 3gun rifle (BCM SS410 16” midlength, w/BCM M16 carrier), w/tuned gas system using a CAR buffer and a Benny Hill Rolling Thunder brake.
It locks back on empty 30 round PMAGs with all ammo tested so far which is especially impressive with PMC. It’s truly incredible soft shooting when shooting PMC I can feel it when the bolt hits the rear of the receiver extension and chamber the next round it’s a very weird sensation when I’m shooting as fast as possibly can. It’s too slow with PMC in my opinion I prefer it to be a tad faster cycling. It feels great with AE223 and XM193. Quite a bit of flash with the XM193 but just right with AE223. At 15yds with this set up I can shoot a fist sized group as fast as I can pull the trigger with AE223 A few people at the range thought I had a M16, I was cranking rounds off that fast. It’s truly impressive set up in this way.
The Brakeout does not ring at all like the Blackout.
Nice range reports GotM4 - will have to get one of these for the 18" WhiteOak you put pinned the gas block on for me.
I too would go the 18Tooth route only because I have an older m4200 and a 762SD. I like options!
what do you think of the efficacy of the brakeout on a shorter barrel and gas system?
given that its softly pushing in a 14.5, do you think it will have issues on the 11.5 and shorter guns?
also, did we get these things in stock??? 
I’ll be testing it on my 10.5" and on a BCM 12.5" as soon as I get it. It should work just as well.

The first batch sold out immediately- it was mostly spoken for at SHOT.

How would you pin and weld one of these on a non sbr 14.5"
It would probably be easiest to have it silver-soldered on. There’s not much room for pinning / welding on it like you can a M4-2000 Blackout on the wrench flats.
I put another 250 rounds through the optimized gas system BCM 14.5" midlength upper with the AAC 51T Brakeout. This combo is incredible!
I again used the BCM H buffer, LMT enhanced carrier, standard BCM bolt, FP, and cam pin. I think it just needed a little breaking it. It’s smoothed out a lot now with the PMC, before I believe it was running so slow that I could actually feel the buffer hit the back of the stock and I could feel it feeding the next round off the mag and then I’d feel it when the bolt locked forward on a chambered round. It’s a little faster now and I can shoot it faster too. If I get my stance and grip a little too aggressive like I would for a standard M4 carbine I can actually get the muzzle to dive during the recoil recovery. I have to not lean into it much at all with this rifle. It’s shooting very flat and smooth with no flash whatsoever with Black Hills 55gr FMJ (blue box), American Eagle 55gr FMJ and PMC 55gr. PMC being the weakest of the ammo also recoils the least. I shot 80 rounds suppressed (PMC) and the rifle has a little more recoil but it’s only about 10-15% more than unsuppressed to compensate for it I just got a little more aggressive with my stance and I could then control it and shoot it as fast as I could unsuppressed with the same level of accuracy.
Tomorrow I’m sighting this rifle in for 200yds with my Trijicon TR24 in a Bobro mount. I’ll be using this gun for the 3gun match held on May 1st at Quantico hosted by the USMC Combat Marksmanship Team there.
Any thoughts to the SCAR-H SD version?
Hey gotm4, have you shot this on your 10.5 or 12.5 yet? Waiting on a review from you to see if I want to put the brakeout on my 10.5 or 16.
I shot it a little on the 10.5", on that the AAC brake is nicer. I don’t know it’s because that rifle is heavier or what. Suppressed I can’t tell the difference on the 10.5"
I haven’t yet received my 12.5" BCM upper.

I always thought the brakeout was AAC’s brake. I’ve never seen this thing.
Now I see what they mean by it being the worst of both worlds. (i.e. loudness of a brake without the gain of blast baffle protection of a true brake)
The Brakeout has less muzzle lift than their Brake on both the 10.5" and 14.5" barrels that I’ve tried both on. The Brake does a better job at felt recoil. With an aggressive stance the difference is nill. I’d much rather use a Brakeout vs. the AAC Brake. The Brake is a lot louder than the Brakeout. I’ve tested both with American Eagle .223 FMJ, Federal XM193, Lake City M855, Black Hills blue box 55gr FMJ, Prvi 75gr match, PMC 55gr FMJ and Wolf 55gr FMJ. Federal XM193 has horrendous flash out of the Brake and the Brake out. I’m continuing to use the AAC Brake on my 10.5" gun since 99% of the time it’s shot suppressed anyway and I dislike the ring (even when suppressed) of the Blackout that I previously use but the Blackout is a great flash hider.
The Brakeout unsuppressed sounds to me about the same as a PWS FSC556 on the 14.5" barrel. On the 10.5" barrel I find the Brakeout louder than a FSC556. Both are way louder than an A2 comp or KAC Triple Tap comp.

I think the SPR M4 rings a little less than the normal blackouts. I don’t know if its because the device is larger or more rigid.
Mark- It’s not the worst of both worlds… it really is a mix- decent recoil reduction, great muzzle flip reduction, and decent flash suppression… You do get a single true “brake” surface to catch a fair bit of blast/unburnt powder before it reaches the suppressor’s blast baffle.
• Sound (unsuppressed) and flash performance - BLACKOUT Flash Hider
• Mix of all features, not as good with flash or sound as the BLACKOUT Flash Hider, not quite as good with recoil as the BLACKOUT Muzzle Brake- BRAKEOUT Compensator
• Best recoil reduction, at the expense of (unsuppressed) sound and big flash (With some ammo/shorter barrels) - BLACKOUT Muzzle Brake.
I have found no rhyme or reason. Some examples of each Blackout (18T, 51T, SPR-M4, 556 and 762) don’t ring at all, some do. Some ring before they are mounted, and not after… some don’t ring until they are mounted.
This is true for any open-ended flash hider.
That all said, I’ve never noticed it when actually using a weapon, just when sitting around playing with one.
