A Logarithmic Map of the Entire Observable Universe

Space: the final frontier…and all that good stuff. It has always amazed me how vast space is and for has much as we can see it is only a very small amount of what is actually out there. Here is a pretty cool map of what we can see…

A Logarithmic Map of the Entire Observable Universe

Awesome post. The magnitude of the universe is absolutely staggering when distances are put into context like this. For reference, 1 AU is just shy of 93 million miles, or about 8m 20s at light speed. 1 light year is 5.88 trillion miles, and 1 parsec is 3.26 light years. According to this map, Voyager 1 is over 1000x the distance from Earth as the Sun is, and that is about as far as humans have reached. For all intents and purposes, the universe is infinite from the human perspective.

Need to power up that logarithmic engine…

Something I dont understand, of which there is an infinite amount of:
“Among the scientific community, it’s widely believed that so far humans have only discovered about 5% of the universe.”
How can you know how much youve discovered…if you dont know how much is out there?
If they think theyve discovered 5%…then wouldnt they then know the size of the universe?
Tell me what Im missing here.

So 5% of infinity is…… 7
