Captain Benjamin Lewis Salomon (September 1, 1914 – July 7, 1944)
Amazing story, thanks for sharing.
I am glad he was finally recognized. They certainly had to jump through a lot of hoops, considering his non-combatant status.
As Nimitz so pithily put it, “Uncommon valor was a common virtue.” God bless this man. Never heard of him, will never now forget him.
“Greater love has no man than that he lay down his life for his friends.”
Hoping “The History Guy” covers his story at some point.
Thanks for sharing that’s an incredible story.
A true hero. Glad he finally got the well deserved MOH
Interesting picture, thanks for sharing. Me being a WW2 history buff it has always been a dream of mine to visit some of the Pacific island battlefields - Saipan, Guadalcanal, Peleliu, and Tarawa in particular.
You should come to Saipan. It’s the largest island in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. It’s a US possession north of Guam. People here are US citizens, we use US money. etc. Great beaches and not only can you visit the battlefields everywhere on the island but Tinian is right next door where you can also see the battlefields as well as see the runway where the Enola Gay took from on the way to Hiroshima.
Lance Guyger put out a video on him today.
