7.62x51 surplus ammo source

Where are you guys finding surplus ammo? I’ve hit all known links and can’t seem to find any.

I’ve located some Portuguese FNM head-stamped, 200 rds for about $120.00 Is this the going rate these days?

Thanks

The days of finding cheap 7.62 or 5.56 are loooong gone…Honestly, if you want reasonably priced 7.62, you might want to consider reloading…

You can reload .308 between $.15 to $.20 a shot.

Port is great Ammo,“but” $120 bucks is way to much I feel for Surplus that is Not reloadable !! If you don’t reload then its a tough road for sure !! This is a pretty decent deal for quality ammo !! http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.aspx?item=AP308FMJ145&name=Prvi+Partizan+.308+FMJ+145grn+20rd+Box&groupid=26 This is a better deal than the Port,$94 bucks for 200 rds, http://www.wideners.com/itemdetail.cfm?item_id=7240&dir=18|830|848 Hope this helps, drop me a line if ya need any more, but these are the 2 places I normally get 308 from !!

Thanks for your thoughts and links guys. I don’t reload, that’s why I was looking for surplus…wasn’t really concerned so much with reload able brass. I recently acquired an Hk91 and new to the 7.62 round, so just looking for some insight on pricing and availability of the surplus ammo.

Not a problem,I understand not reloading,it is a Big commitment for sure !!! I still would get the Ammo from the 2 places above, even though you don’t reload, you could sell the once fired brass for some $$$$ back on your investment & put it back into more ammo for yourself !!! Also if anyone is gonna have some “real” surplus,Aim will have it,just keep your eyes peeled !!

Good idea m1a, I never thought about reselling the brass. Thanks again!

If you’re think of doing that, buy a port buffer and put it on the HK, if it dosen’t have one…This will do two things, stop the brass cases from getting dented so badly upon ejection, they can’t be reloaded, and keep them from going into low earth orbit…makes the emptys much easier to find…I used to have a PTR 91, So, I’ve been down that road…

One other thing, the only brass us reloaders are interested in is boxer primed, there still some surplus that shows up from time to time that is brass cased and Berdan primed, and worthless (except as scrap) as it can’t be reloaded…You could always seperate it, and when you get a 5 gallon bucket of berdan primed brass, sell it for scrap and buy more ammo…

you can get brand new brown bear ammo at ammo to go for ~$.35 a round.

it shoots well and the HK91 would do fine with it I would think.

Aim and Wideners have some decent prices on PPU

Tell me how, please

I’m about to make the jump from loading pistol cartridges to loading rifle cartridges, and the best that I could come up with was about 27¢/round.

My guesstimate:

15¢ 145gr bulk bullets
2¢ Wolf Large Magnum Rifle Primer
10¢ 40-42 grains Ramshot TAC

This is still waaay worth it with surplus ammo at 48¢ or more per round, but it’s not 20¢/round, much less 15¢.

Due to the price of componets (brass cases, bullets, etc) about the best you’re going to as far as your costs go, is right around 50%, meaning that the ammo you reload will cost 50% less than factory… Still worth it,but the gap is closing…

After quite a bit of searching, the best deal that I could find was 1,000rnds of PPU for $479, shipped, from AmmoMan…
