M855A1 “green” enhanced performance round fired from 14.5" barrel AR into calibrated 10% gelatin.

BB: 584.2 fps, 3.3"

Impact velocity: 3,013 fps
Penetration: 19.9"
Retained weight: 24.3 gr
Neck: 0.5"
TSC: 3.5" x 7"

The copper slug from the base of the projectile is the part that was recovered at 19.9" and weighed 24.3gr and measured 0.187" across the middle and 0.409" long.

The steel penetrator tip was found lying on the tarp and weighed 18.9 gr and measured 0.168" across the middle and 0.564" long.

The copper jacket fragmented completely.

Pretty good performance, not as good as a heavy OTM but pretty good compared to M855 or M193. Cant really tell in the videos but how much fragmentation is there compared to the 77gr TMK or nosler CC?

Wasn’t really that much. Just the jacket.

Id imagine the performance would be much better if it had a lead core. Did the steel penetrator come out the side of the block or something? I can sort of see a wound track coming out the side but Im not sure.

I couldn’t tell for sure. There was a large crack that ran most of the length of the bottom of the block but no obvious track that I could see.

Honestly Im not seeing whats so great about this round. I think the last guy who posted gel shots before were they pulled by CID said it had amazing performance but Im just not seeing it. Even mk318 looked much better than this, and the 77gr TMK out performs even that.

Bottom line, 62gr TBBC, 50gr & 70gr TSX, Nosler BSB, and 50/70gr GMX are ALL better all purpose barrier rounds than A1. And your gun will last longer using those, too. Lol

Yeah, no shit! Look at that velocity… >3000fps from a 14.5" barrel! Yeah, it’s just a little hot.

And the bullet is almost TSX length for that weight. The quad-staked primer is an absolute necessity for A1.

Damn! how did you get some of this hippy ammo?

Found it.

Lol. Good find.

How does the 55gr TSX perform?

It is softer and tends to shear petals and lose mass when passing through auto glass. The 50gr, exclusive the black hills ammo, is a different design. It has a higher expansion threshold (2300 fps vs 1900 fps for the std 55gr), but doesn’t shear petals.

It does however have a tendency to collapse in on itself and fail to expand when shooting through sheet metal barriers, just as with the other monolithic copper hollow point bullets.

Correct.

It was pretty damn impressive, the path it left in the gel, could easily cover any of the $1+ per round stuff I tested.

What made it even more impressive was all the hate and misinformation that is spread about it.

Any chance you can repost your test since it seems they dont care anymore?

I will email the king to see.
