I recently picked up a host for a 1911 build. It’s been 20 years since I worked on a 1911. Who is currently making quality bar stock parts, that are made here in the states?
Thx in advance for the advise.

I’m partial to WC Bulletproof and EGW. Both have great CS and are located in the US.
Cylinder & Slide also, they also rockwell test the majority of their parts. 10-8 performance stuff is really good but limited on what they offer.
What parts in particular are you looking for?
I do like C&S’ ignition kits quite a bit.
Excellent advice on suppliers. I will second their recommendations. ![]()
+1 on Wilson Combat, Cylinder & Slide, and EGW. Also Ed Brown. I have one of their hardcore extractors and it’s excellent.
For a fighting gun, check out Dave Berryhill’s online store. Dave is a member of this forum and, somewhat similar to G&R Tactical in the AR parts field, Dave tends to only carry 1911 parts that are of good quality. He’s also a good one to check with for advice on parts, he’s helped me more than once.
A good many quality bar stock parts can be found via EGW and Wilson Combat. Both produce thumb safeties and grip safeties that are from solid bar-stock and worth every penny.
Don’t bother with any extractor, ejector, or firing pin stop that’s not a machined part… for those I go with Wilson’s parts in most every instance. Wilson also makes a bar-stock mag-catch that is good-to-go.
It’s hard to buy a bad ignition set now, you almost have to try. Same goes with barrels, I mostly use Karts in 45ACP guns fit up to EGW bushings and bar-stock slide stops.
As far as Ed Brown parts go, the only part I use from Brown is the blank mainspring housings. Nothing else.
There are certainly other good parts/brands available… it’s nice to have so many good choices for our favorite pistol.
Everyone thank you for your posts.
Mr. Burton a Big Thank You for sharing. Back in the day Ed Brown was the go to place for parts. I really want to build this to enjoy for the long term. I will look into using EGW.
I like Greider, 10-8, EGW, Wilson Bulletproof, Harrison Design, C&S
I’ve used Wilson, Ed Brown, and EGW parts and they were all great parts.
Im a fan of all things Harrison Design and 10-8 Performance.
