16" to 14.5 " Barrel

I am really wanting to cut my 16" Wilson ChromeMoly Chrome Lined Air Gauged Barrel… to 14.5 and welding on my flash hider to keep it legal.

Question… Will this affect the accuracy …and if so how much at 100m??

TIA
Doc

Stiff barrels are more accurate than more flexible barrels. Shorter barrels of the same diameter are stiffer than longer barrels. Thus cutting a barrel from 16" to 14.5" will likely increase it’s accuracy potential. Most shooters aren’t good enough shooters to be able to tell the difference of before and after when cutting from 16" to 14.5".

It’s a misconception that long barrels are somehow more accurate than short barrels. Long barrels have more velocity for longer range.

I’d say how much heat is built up while you cut it and how it affects the muzzle end barrel material, plus the quality of your recrowning job would be the the biggest variables of how accurate your piece turns out.
