I am wanting a 10.5 noveske stainless steel switchblock barrel, a standard upper, and a daniel defense lite rail. I am waiting for a reply from noveske so I’m not sure I can’t have a factory Noveske upper in this config. I am curious though if I am unable to get a noveske factory build what DD length rail will accomodate (switchblock in front of end of rail) a 10.5 SB. I have no problem ordering these parts and having a smith assemble my planned upper. I would like a rail that has an opening for the SB but I don’t know if it would have enough in front of this setup to mount flip up irons and room for a suppressor.
I want a 10.5 upper that will run suppressed as well as unsuppressed 100% and the switchblock looks like the best answer.
Any tips, advice, or personal experiences would be very helpful.
Without cutting a rail to allow for the SB, you will be limited to a 7" rail.
I should have mentioned I have settled on this upper if I can’t get what I prefer.
Even if you could find a rail that would fit over the switchblock, I’m not sure you would be able to switch the settings on it.
If you want a rail made for a 10.5" bbl and for use with a SB, then I would go with the “Noveske Lo-Pro with SB” using the SWS rails. OR get a MK18 rail (or any other DD rail) and have it cut to accomodate the SB.
Don’t know if there are many other options out there…
ETA: The upper you linked is the one that I referenced above. I don’t think you can go wrong with that selection!
yeah I ran into the same issue trying to use the troy rail, the rail won’t even slide off with the switch block on, so you have to mount the rail and bbl and then attach the switch block and gas tube. It’s almost like you would need to run a taller upper with larger handgaurds like used in the piston guns to allow for more clearance. It is a great idea, but there has to be a way to set up better. Maybe a company will come out with some rails with a cutout so you can at least access it while maintaining a longer rail. I guess for now having a rail cut and refinished is the best setup.
Still a pain if you are not running a split rail or one that will slide off, because every time you want to clean the bbl you will have to take the switch block off the bbl. And the noveske bbls do need to be cleaned to keep the SS exterior from rusting (if you shoot anywhere that is humid or in the rain).
