Stocks similar to Magpul UBR?

Are there any stocks out there similar to the UBR, namely in that they’re collapsible and have a consistent cheek weld? I really like the UBR but it’s one heavy and expensive SOB…

I have no experience with these other to say I’ve seen them in my local gun store.

That looks darn near identical to the old Magpul M93 stock…

It looks exactly like the old m93’s because it is:)

IIrc Magpul sold the rights to the m93 to Ergo once they finalized the production model of the current UBR. Makes sense after all, Magpul has no use for it and its still an excellent design…just nowhere near the Cadillac that the UBR is.

OP, I don’t think anything anywhere close to the UBR exists…its slap full of proprietary goodness and it prob. has 4-5 features that are relatively large in scope that are easily unmatched.

I have an Ergo F93 (linked above) and like it pretty well. Lockup is absolutely solid and I actually like the cheekweld better than that of a UBR, which I also have. It is considerably lighter than a UBR. The quality is not quite up to Magpul’s typical standards, and I don’t know how it would hold up in hard use - ask me a couple years from now if I keep using that lower as a competition gun. The latch is plastic on plastic, not metal on metal like the UBR, and the integrated buffer tube is an unknown in terms of material and method of construction (at the price I suspect it’s hot extruded 6061). They run only $125 at MidwayUSA.

FWIW, I actually bought two but returned one. I initially bought a tan one and had no problems with it. It also has a properly milled QD swivel cup. I then bought an OD green one for another build, and found (1) not milled for QD swivel, and (2) latch mechanism didn’t seem to be molded quite right. So I returned it unused, and wound up buying a UBR.

I want a UBR that’s slightly longer so that it’s compatible with the VLTOR A5 buffer system.

Just get the UBR…

I got both stocks. I like the 93B. Its solid and still relatively light. The UBR’s only downside is its weight and cost.

On the cost angle, it’s really only $50 more than an ACS comparably equipped or LMT SOPMOD, so if you have a heavy rifle or are using an ACOG on it, just get the UBR.

I’ve got the M93B as well as a few UBR’s. I’d just as well save up for another UBR. I don’t find the weight to be much of an issue, and prefer the UBR over 99% of the stocks currently out there. Just my 2kopecks…

I’ve had the M93 I sold it, I’ve had the Vltor EMod, I sold it, I’ve had the SOPMOD I sold that too. I now have 4 carbines with the UBR and two with the CTR. The UBR is only a marginal increase in cost and weight, which I find balances my carbines as I prefer long(er) rails and otpics.

Ergo made some “improvements” to th m93b in their stock though I don’t remember the details. At last years SHOT how the ergo guy was happy to explain their improvements.

That would be a very cool option, but the UBR is designed to be used with a proprietary receiver extension.

What are the actual weights of an UBR with it’s receiver extension compared to other stocks with receiver extension?

I have both an UBR and a F93.

The F93 isn’t bad, I have it on a range toy 9mm. I’m not convinced I’d put it on a “serious” carbine, the composite materials appear to be different than what Magpul uses. (It may just be a finishing difference.) I’m not saying that it’s bad, it’s just unproven in my book. Nothing has broken, but some of the finishing is a little crude. I would say it’s finished appropriately for the price, though.

The UBR is superb, just a heavy mother. I seriously considered standardizing on them, but chickened out and went ACS instead. My UBR now lives on my 20" scoped bipod rifle.

I don’t think it’s proprietary, is it? I was under the impression that it’s the same receiver extension as used in stubby fixed stocks.

My understanding is that it uses a standard “entry” RE.

That’s my understanding too.

I really like the UBR, but yeah, it’s heavy. I’d love if Magpul made a UBR-lite or something, but failing that I can work with ‘similar but lighter’ if the quality’s right. Is the Ergo stock the only one right now?

I don’t know of anything with the same concept other than the UBR and Ergo F93 (Magpul 93).

A lot of the newer telestock designs lock up nice and tight, but you don’t get the same potentially constant cheekweld as the UBR and 93.

yes. Look at an LMT SOPMOD or the Vltot Emod or Imod. Both have a great cheek weld.
The emod is more than half the cost of the ubr, and more comfortable and useful, as well.

Whadaya know 'bout dat? The UBR does use the Entry Receiver Extension. All this time I thought it was proprietary design.

Interesting…
